Top Assistant Coaches

Featured Replies

Chris Nethery, and Tony Carlton from Gallatin Co. along with, IMO, one of the top head coachs in the region. They put out quality teams year after year, from a small class A school, that doent "draw" in the same talent level as a Shelby or SK. Good job guys and keep up the hard work.

Kevin Campbell has done a great job at Perry Central and is waiting for an opportunity to open up. I think he thought about taking the job at East Ridge but decided against it. He will do a great job where ever he ends up getting a head coaching job! May happen sooner than later.

I don't know about the best but Scott Co. definitely has the most. How about 8 assistants sitting on the bench.

Not sure about this year but thats about the number NCC usually has also. I remember last season with football still going on there were more coaches dressed than players on varsity.

Sullivan from Holmes, and Gaskins(sp?) from Scott are two quality assistants from the nky area.

I have to go with Robbie Graham of Clark County. He is one heck of a nice guy and really knows his stuff on basketball...

No argument here regarding character, however, Robbie is unable to be a head coach due to lack of academic credentials.

Corbin-Brent West

South Laurel-R. Denney

I thank Kenneth Neace has been a important part of the turnaround at Breathitt. He's coaching the JV and i think they have lost just 1 game also, so Coach Neace is doing a great job.

Scott Floyd at Raceland deserves a mention.

Pretty good resumes on that bench:

Billy Hicks: 700+ wins, one of Kentucky High School's all time great coaches. Loves the game and loves the kids. Still works 10 or so weeks of camp every summer so he can form relationships for the next generation of Cardinals... probably fishes and cooks even better than he coaches.

Chris Willhite: Played at Scott Co.; won the sportsmanship award at the State Tournament in 90 or 91???; All-time assist leader at Campbellsville University; was the varsity assistant at Tates Creek for a while and was a scout/assistant coach at Georgetown College for a while. Implements the offensive sets and acts as Coach Hicks right hand man.

Tim Glenn: was the all-time leading scorer at Asbury until Ronnie Brown passed him a couple of years ago. Won multiple middle school championships before moving up to his current position with the JV. Prepares players to step in and contribute at the varsity level.

Dudley Mattingly: Known as "The General". Has had multiple undefeated seasons. Introduces players to the Scott County system and the intensity level that is expected. The players who make it through this freshman year of "boot camp" are mentally tough and well prepared.

Scott Hundley: was Mr. Basketball in 2000; played 4 years at Vandy and was voted 6th man of the year in the SEC in 2004; great knowledge of the game; the players respect his accomplishments and listen closely to his advice

Keith Griesser: spent 9 years coaching at Georgetown College. Was a full-time assistant on the 1998 NAIA national championship team; he is a big reason Jared Carter improved so much between his junior and senior years.

Nick Napier: A good old boy from Bell Co. who is trying to get started in coaching. Works hard and does everything he is asked.

Yep, there are a bunch of them, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better staff. The best part is that they are not only good coaches, but quality men and good role models for the young men at Scott Co.

Roscoe Denny of South Laurel. Does anyone know how many differant teams he has been to the Sweet Sixteen with?

Pulaski, Breathitt, Danville and South are at least four, that I can recall. As they say" The Legend" can draw them up with the best. No one can out X and O Roscoe....nice slogan. He is also a talented musician like Ol Bubba himself.

Brad Cox-Pendleton County

He's still young, but since joining the Wildcat program as a coach they have a record of 81-28(3 1/2 seasons). The Wildcats have also won three district titles and one regional title since he's been there.

He also might be one of the best dressed assistant coaches while always rocking the Red Sport Coat.

Cox was a PC player from 1999-2002.

Brian LeMaster of Boyd County. He took a group of eastern KY boys to the national AAU tourney for 5 consecutive years and always finish in the top 15 and several top 10 finishes. He got the most out of every single kid he coached and they all loved him for it. Night in and night out he would out-coach the opposing coach who had a much more talented group on their way to a victory. If someone gives him a shot as a HC I have no doubt that he would have major success. Schools would then be fighting over his services.

Jeff Wilcox of Ashland is another top assistant. His knowledge of the game is top-notch. He coached under Randy Ward during his success at Greenup. He also led the Greenup baseball team to a state final in 1996. He may not be a young and upcoming assistant but he's still a top assistant none the less. Coach Biggs is very lucky to have him on his staff.
