With Stone And Washburn, Jackets And Crimsons Look To Hit The Ground Running, Literally

Records: Season opener for both

Series History: Manual leads 12-4, dating back to 1998

Louisville RB Showcase: A rolling stone gathers no moss, but a running Stone will gather moss, grass, turf, and any other surface Central plays on. Cortez Stone, a Yellowjacket Jr., is the best running back prospect in the state, regardless of class. His cleats collected the second most rushing yards (2,191) in the Commonwealth last year and no one registered more carries than his 271. His Manual counterpart this week is Zah'Ron Washburn, another feature back with D1 aspirations, who ran for nearly 1,400 yards and 20 touchdowns a season ago. His name has popped up in Mr. Football conversations. They both reached the century mark in last year's meeting, but Washburn scored four touchdowns to help the Crimsons muscle past Central, 40-12.

If there's no balance to Central's offense, this probably plays out like last year. Manual should have more diversity this season with a healthy Elijah Creech at quarterback and Aiden Blakey catching balls in space. Then you have their bread and butter with Zeek running behind that big offensive front to deal with. Too much for the Jackets, I think.

Manual should win, but they have been through A LOT in the past 30-45 days, so not sure what to expect.

Manual won 40-12 last year but I think it will be closer this year. I'll take Manual by 14.

Is JCPS even able to play this week, having no school?

Fair question; I know they said they could practice, but I didn't hear anything about playing games.

Yes, they will be playing.

If Manual can diversify this offense a bit and overcome their preseason issues I believe this team could be really nice. I am taking Manual in this one.
