6A Daviess County takes a journey down the Natcher Parkway to take on 4A Warren East. Last year, this game was a thriller with the Raiders prevailing 49-48 in OT due to in large part the performance of Dane Parsley.

Warren East comes in with a new head coach, several new faces on both sides of the ball, and a variety of change that have some questioning the expectations out on Louisville Rd. What hasn't changed is that Dane Parsley is still a Raider along with his trusted side kick Tray Price. I look for the two to both have outstanding years.

Daviess County returns less than East, with big productions losses in Bryson Parm and Decker Renfrow. Admittedly, I am not familiar with how they have looked in their scrimmages. They seemed well coached last year when they visited WE for the week 10 classic.

Who takes the night cap game of the J Allen Builders Bowl?

East returns a ton of talent. Should be interesting to see what impact, if any, the coaching change has on the Raiders. Tough first game out the gate against a Daviess Co. program that has settled into being a solid big school program in WKY.

In Daviess County’s scrimmage with Glasgow they didn’t look real good I thought Glasgow was two to three TDS better but it was a little hard to know for sure with those 10 play sessions but I know DC only got in Glasgow territory once while Glasgow scored once and had two more plays whistled to stop that they were going to score one on a quarterback run where he was in the open field and no one was around him and the other was a interception that the Scottie player had smooth sailing all the way to end zone but they whistled it dead as well.

It's hard to tell sometimes what these big schools will bring to the table. Parsley and the Raiders were good enough to win last year over a Daviess team with significantly more firepower than what they'll feature this season. I think Warren East is the safe pick here.

Hall being an internal hire should instill confidence in a seamless transition, I would think. I don't know the extent of his credentials beyond being an assistant at WE, but I look for him to hit the ground running.

The Daviess County Panthers have compiled a record of 52-38 since HC Matt Brannon who is entering his 9th season took over in 2015. The Muhlenberg County native is in route to becoming the all time winningest coach in school's history looking for 11 more victories to takeover that title. As he brings his young bunch down I-165 to Bowling Green this Friday they will be greeted again by QB/FS Dane Parsley (JR) who racked up 204 yards in the air with 3 TD's and 105 yards rushing adding another 3 TD's against the Panthers last season. The positive for Daviess County is they return a couple of big time playmakers from that wild 49-48 loss in at Jim Ross field last fall, WR/DB Luke Floyd (SR) 4 catches for 122 yards and 2 TD's and also QB/WR/DB Russ Crowe (SR) who hauled in 10 receptions for 115 yards.

A lot of questions Offensively will be answered Friday night for both teams, and I do believe this will be a big momentum boost for the winner. The Raiders have to find a couple of pieces on Offense to make up for the production that was lost. Warren East graduated a playmaking WR in Ahmad Alexander who put up 639 yards and 11 TD's on 41 receptions and RB Quinton Hollis who rushed for 1,010 and 14 TD's on 132 carries. On top of that they are having to replace 4/5 on the Offensive Line. Daviess County on the other hand is in a very similar situation except they don't bring back anything offensively other than an OL Ryder Cunningham (SR) and a couple of WR's who were previously mentioned above, Crowe is in line to be splitting snaps with fellow teammate QB/DB Dartez Basham (SR). The graduating class of 2023 was huge for Daviess County success the past couple of seasons and the newcomers will be put to the test and the inexperience may show as they have a tough first 3 weeks against the Raiders, Owensboro Catholic and Owensboro, all top 10 preseason teams in their respective classes.

Two very even matched teams, I think Coach Brannon and company find a way to steal this one on the smurf turf and their experience on the defensive side of the ball will be the factor late in the game. Expect another thriller.
