Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (HBO)

Featured Replies

I thought there was a thread on this already from season 1, but I didn't see it.

The first episode of season 2 just came out this week.

Season 1 starts just prior the Dr. Jerry Buss buying the Lakers. I'm not sure how historically accurate this series is, but it's a fun watch. John C. Reilly kills it as Buss. Series really digs into the Kareem/Magic dynamics quite a bit.

NSFChildren due to nudity.

This is so well done. I don’t even care how much of it is true. Appointment TV for me and the Mrs.

Series just ended...out of nowhere evidently HBO told them to wrap it up mid-season. A series about the Showtime Lakers ENDED with them losing in the finals to Boston. It was so awkward they way the series just ended. There was a closing montage that covered what happened to the key people in the years to come.

Any chance the short ending had something to do with the writers/actors strike?

It wasn't mentioned in the story I read...just said HBO pulled the plug and told them to wrap it up.

I think ratings were poor. I loved the show and hope it gets picked up by some other company. The actors playing Jerry Buss, Magic, and Kareem were almost perfect.

The story that I read said that the ratings for season 2 dropped by 50% from what they got in season 1.   They partially blamed the strike for that because the actors weren't available to promote the season like they were the first one.

Good to see Bird go out a winner....

I enjoyed this show. John C Reilly was great as Dr Buss and the actors playing Magic and Kareem were great too. Would have liked seeing more episodes or at least another season.
