Did you all see where the NCAA has suspended Farris State Head Coach Tony Annese for "first upcoming playoff game" Farris State will play because 2 of his players smoked a cigar in the locker room after they won the national championship.

The NCAA is ridiculous at times!

I saw it and I think it is outrageous. With that said, given all the facts that it happened last year too, they were warned not to do it again, they also committed "theft" and it was a high school venue that prohibits all tobacco products there should be a punishment but a future playoff game suspension is idiotic.

It sounded from the article like the coach and staff did about everything they could do to keep it from happening.  I am sure the players were seniors who just won their last football game of their career.

Plus, if like most HS venues I have been, the no tobacco on school grounds policy gets broken multiple times daily.  To me it's just the NCAA flexing their muscles in places they don't need to.

If Alabama men's basketball didn't have multiple players involved in a murder investigation, the penalty for this Coach probably wouldn't have been as harsh!?

I mentioned this before in another thread. I saw an interview of someone who knows the inner workings of the NCAA pretty well and he said that the power five level football will leave the NCAA in the next few years and run their own organization.

Guru--- think about TMU being stripped of the women's DIII basketball championship for supposed illegal actions rehabbing a star player from knee surgery. Seemed like a pretty steep punishment to me.

Basically, an assistant coach allowed Sidney Moss to stay with them while rehabbing an ACL injury.  Sidney had a 2nd floor apartment at the time and the coach had a 1st floor room available and believed it would be easier for her.  This was deemed an improper benefit and made Moss an ineligible player the following season.
