No I don’t even have a kid. Just hate that people credit him for being a good coach when he’s really not.

Why do you think he is such a terrible coach? Not saying I disagree, just curious.

This may have been the wackiest 8th Region Tournament ever.                     Three teams failed to break 30 points.                   One game had a 35-2 run in the second half.

Sounds like you have a personal issue with him. Did he cut your kid or something?  Talk about sour ?.

Is Duvall a good coach?  Hard to say.  Is Roger Harden a good coach?  Owen County and Carroll County are almost exactly the same in enrollment. Main difference is lightning remarkably struck twice in short order for OC in Carson Williams and Teagan Moore.  A kid that good obviously makes a difference - hence OC won 24 games and Carroll County won 7 this year.  A kid like Moore makes OC a lot better than CC - but that doesn’t mean OC can or should beat the best teams in the region. I saw the Owen County v Woodford County game, and I’m not sure what the OC coach could have done differently.  OC was up big in that game, and while that was due in part to their play, it was much more due to Woodford’s casual indifferent play. Once Woodford cranked up the defensive intensity, it was like watching a good varsity team play a freshman team, and the outcome was pretty easy to see coming.  Duvall might be good, mediocre or bad. It’s hard to say.

Only 1 district championship in 6 years of Teagan Moore? Losing to GC in the District Finals this year?

Come on now, Moore wasn't a stud for 6 years.  The kid never, never had a strong supporting cast.

I understand that, but the kid has been a stud since he was a sophomore. If I am not wrong, he had a 50 point game in the District tournament as a Sophomore. And keep in mind the 31st District has been weak as of lately. But, losing to Gallatin in the District his senior year? As a coach, how do you let that happen?

Talking of the supporting cast, you are right. The supporting cast has never been great. But as a coach, Duvall has had years to develop some sort of supporting cast, and failed to do so.

Do not take this as downplaying the Moore. Teagan Moore might be the best player that has ever played in the 31st. I am a big fan of his, and hope he does well at the collegiate level.

Gallatin hits a miracle shot this season. Last season OC wins district. SophoMoore falls to Dylan Hammonds 1.0 in Trevor Hardin and Sam Royal at Henry Co in the district finals. 19/20 Freshman Moore and a not very good OC team loses unexpectedly to a not very good Eminence team in the first round of districts where his #2 is an 8th grader. Which of those years should they have dominated the district exactly? Expecting a Jr. High or freshman player to carry a team through the postseason is a wild thought to me.

Maybe Coach Duvall could have two or even three titles if everything goes exactly as planned, but calling him a bad coach because of one player is asinine.

How do you develop talent when you have zero to develop?  How did UK lose to St.Peters, things happen.

There is always room to develop, and that supporting cast has not developed since 8th grade. Even schools like Carroll County are progressing and getting better as the year goes on, with limited talent.

Well, just drive over to Owenton in the morning and hand him his pink slip, if that will make you happy.LOL

No way you think Owen had them beat?Duvall is the one of the worst coaches in the 8th. And you can go ahead and say well, look at the last couple years… They had Teegan Moore. That’s literally the answer to everything Owen has been thrown the past 3 years. I am going to sincerely enjoy watching Owen get blown out next year and finally see Duvall get exposed of how bad of a coach he really is.

For a small school like Owen County, they have had quite a bit of talented high school players come through there the last 10-12 years, at least two division one players.

And they’ve won almost half of the available district championships in that period. 5/12 and we’re acting like Coach Duvall is a bum? Figgeritout.

Sometime in a smaller school you can only get so much blood out of a turnip. You’re just at the mercy of parental genetics. It’s not like people move in, people move out. Calling any coach a bum is crazy. For the amount of garbage the average High School coach puts up with for the amount of pay is insane. If you think you can do a better job. You’re more than welcome to be a volunteer assistant. It’s not like you have to teach AP Algebra 3 now a days. You just have to have not been a felon. Places are desperate for the next great Coach.

Rule 8

One of the hardest things for coaches to do in practice is to simulate “game speed” against “game competition”. Small schools face a large challenge in the practice setting - they just don’t have the depth. Look at players 8-14 at Owen County and compare them to players 8-14 at the larger schools. There’s usually no comparison. It also shows up when a starter or two gets in could trouble. You can have a stud or a great starting five, but depth usually wins out over time.
