Haven’t even been on this page for a day and already beefing. I LOVE IT.

This may have been the wackiest 8th Region Tournament ever.                     Three teams failed to break 30 points.
One game had a 35-2 run in the second half.                                                              The #3 team in the state had 2 points with 3:20 left in the second quarter of their semifinal game.
The last 6 games were all decided by double digits and an average winning margin of 19.2 points.
The average score of the losing team was 37 points .
And to top it off the Champions were 5-9 and 13-12 at one time.

Some stats from tonight:

Collins:
Kenyon Goodin: 8 pts | 5 reb | 4/16 fg
Isiah Cochran: 7 pts | 1 reb | 2/8 fg | 3/3 ft
Quintin Simmons: 2 pts | 4 reb | 0/8 fg | 2/2 ft
Kiya Ledford: 2 pts | 2 reb | 1/4 fg
Darius Evans: 2 pts | 1/1 fg

Team: 8/42 (19%) fg | 0/12 3p | 5/5 ft | 15 reb | 6 to

Woodford County:
Jasper Johnson: 17 pts | 10 reb | 5/11 fg | 6/7 ft
Santonio Wade: 13 pts | 4 reb | 4/9 fg | 4/4 ft
Makhi Smith: 8 pts | 7 reb | 4/5 fg
Aden Nelson: 2 pts | 3 reb | 1/2 fg
Ethan Johnson: 2 pts | 3 reb | 0/1 fg | 2/2 ft
Carson Probst: 2 pts | 1 reb | 1/1 fg

Team: 15/33 (45%) fg | 2/10 (20%) 3p | 12/17 (71%) ft | 32 reb | 12 to

Some things that stick out to me:
8/42 from the field for Collins. Their recipe this season has been consistency, and boy did they miss that tonight. There was flat out no one that could hit a shot tonight, and it was majorly due to Woodford's smothering defense. They also were 0/12 from behind the arc. You are not going to win many, if any games with these shooting stats. Another thing that surprised me was just 6 turnovers. That is a great number to be at as a team, but with no shots going in you still aren't going to win. The last stat, rebounding. Woodford County had double the rebounds they did, which is not a recipe to win the game.

Woodford County was not great offensively, but made up for it on the other end of the court. They had a mediocre night from the field, a pretty bad night from 3, but still won in dominating fashion. They shot well from the free throw line, and rebounded the heck out of the ball. The only bad stat really for WC was their turnovers. Rarely do you see a team double the others number of turnovers and still win, let alone blow them out.

8th Region Tournament All-Tournament Team:

Dylan Hammonds (Grant County)
Teagan Moore (Owen County)
Max Green (Oldham County)
Andrew Brinker (Gallatin County)
Dallas Roberts (North Oldham)
Jack Fischer (North Oldham)
Travis Krohman (Simon Kenton)
Gabe Dynes (Simon Kenton)
Isiah Cochran (Collins)
Quintin Simmons (Collins)
Kenyon Goodin (Collins)
Makhi Smith (Woodford County)
Aden Nelson (Woodford County)
John McCrear (Woodford County)
Santonio Waide (Woodford County)
TOURNAMENT MVP: Jasper Johnson (Woodford County)

No way you think Owen had them beat?Duvall is the one of the worst coaches in the 8th. And you can go ahead and say well, look at the last couple years… They had Teegan Moore. That’s literally the answer to everything Owen has been thrown the past 3 years. I am going to sincerely enjoy watching Owen get blown out next year and finally see Duvall get exposed of how bad of a coach he really is.

Can’t disagree. But who else is in your category?

I've been broadcasting all of the boys' 8th Region games for 26 years - and before that, I was broadcasting most of the games each year.   CANNOT remember a more crazy, goofy, wild, unpredictable tournament.

Woodford was the team with the hot hand, and they earned the title with a remarkable effort - slamming the two highest-ranked teams (North #3, Collins #17) on the way to the title, and showing remarkable poise after trailing Owen by 10 with just one quarter to play.

Best of luck to the Jackets!   Carry the flag!

Just asking, were any of these games classified as upsets?

The only one that I can really think of would be Woodford County over North Oldham. But in all honesty, if Woodford was fully healthy all year then they would be right beside North Oldham in pre-tournament favorites. The only reason I would consider this an upset is because North Oldham was ranked #3 in the state, and looked like sure favorites heading into the week.

Not only that, this is Woodford County's first-ever Eighth Region championship. Last won a region title in 1986 in the 11th Region.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  I agree that Duvall could have done a better job, but the reaction seemed harsh.

No I don’t even have a kid. Just hate that people credit him for being a good coach when he’s really not.

Agreed. I am also not a huge fan of Coach D, but this guy has to have some personal vendetta against him....
