Fun fact about NHS baseball. The Wildcats won the 1st two KHSAA sanctioned state tournaments. 1940 n 1941.

My grandfather was a starting picture on those teams.  He celebrated 100 years in December and can still tell you about the state championship game.

Congrats to your Grandfather!!  Demographics of No. KY. has taken its toll on NHS baseball.  We were competitive in big school baseball '73-'75.

Did he play in 1944?  My Brooksville Polar Bears beat Newport in the region finals that year and was state runner-up.  I think they were the only two teams in the region though. LOL.

Newport has one of the best setups of a field I've seen.  Nice seating area and looks great from above.

Geat pics!  This complex is one of the better kept secrets around and has served a lot of functions and teams.  Tennis courts hosted many a regional tourney back in the day.  The grass infield is a huge upgrade from the dirt infield we played on as a kid and at Newport High School.   And that dirt infield was home to a professional team at one time.  From 1977 to 1982 there was a professional mens slow pitch softball league in the United States and the Cincinnati Suds used this field.  Yes the"U" is a beer mug.

The grass infield is pretty recent, like within the last several years, correct?  It's been a few years (probably since at least 2019) since I've been on the field, but I'm pretty sure it was dirt last time I was there.
