Only half of the regions play their regional tournament at high schools. The other eight either use college gyms or civic arenas (13th Region at Corbin). Of those that play at high schools, this is a quasi-rundown of their process:

• 8th Region - has been hosted by Henry County every year since 1963.

• 14th Region - rotates among Breathitt County, Knott County Central, Letcher County Central, Perry County Central, and Powell County.

So to answer your question, the 12th Region has much in common with almost every region in Kentucky. Only two have anything close to the type of rotation you're requesting.

You’re a wealth of info. Thank you! But it really sounds like the 2nd region is the only one that’s really like the 12th in that it is rotated between two teams that are generally highly competitive year in and year out. 

The 5th region rotates among several; the 6th/7th is hosted by a team that’s rarely (at least that I can remember) in contention; and the 8th region - while I don’t like one school hosting it every year, they’re not typically a regional contender. The 14th rotates among several and I assume that’s based on gym size. So, it is unusual to let regional powerhouses host the tourney every year.

I like the district rotation idea. Take the biggest gym in each district and do it that way. Has to be better than letting two regular contenders rotate hosting it. That’s just not a fair way to do it, period.

I have never been able to get an answer on how the money is being divided up doing it this way either.  I have been told that gate is split between all region schools but not 100% confirmed.  No one can answer about concessions. Are these two schools being given the concession profit annually that no other school has a chance at?  It is a lot of work but that can add up to a lot of money for their booster clubs if they get it all.

Gate is divided by the schools competing in the tournament.  From what I have heard, the home venue gets to keep concessions.  I would think that is a 10k profit for the hosting team.

With LC and PC alternating the girls and guys tournaments between themselves, that is a nice revenue stream they can count on each year.

I really like the idea of rotating between each district within the region.  This would keep Lincoln and Pulaski in the rotation but also throw in Mercer and SW Pulaski.  It is a disadvantage for a team from the 46th District to Play the semifinal at Pulaski get home late then turn around the next day and drive an hour back to Pulaski.  Any of the Pulaski schools don't have that hour or more drive that night after the semifinal or the hour drive back the next day.  Mercer has the 2nd best setup in the region with newest gym, gym size and parking with Pulaski being number one from a gym/host standpoint. 

The Rebels struggled to shoot the ball and the stage seemed too big for them. The crowd was unreal.

The district does rotate, the region could not do the same. Most of the gyms in the region are too small or don't have ample parking. The current setup makes the most sense geographically and both schools do a great job. Not to say others wouldn't, but if it ain't broke then why fix it?

Wouldn't be totally shocked to see these two teams play again for the Region next week.

I am not saying every school in the region can host.  I am saying every district gets to choose one team within their district to host region and rotate yearly.  Instead of only having two teams host region there would be 4 teams hosting.  

45 District   Host site Lincoln for Region Tournament

46th District Host site Mercer  for Region Tournament 

47th District Host site Pulaski for Region Tournament

48th District Host site SW Pulaski for Region Tournament.  

Mercer has the newest gym in the region and better setup with parking than Lincoln. I think it is broken when anybody from the 46th district or any of the teams within Boyle County play the late game semifinal game on a Monday night get home close to midnight, go to school the next day then travel an hour again that night for the championship.  That is a huge advantage if being played 5 minutes from your house as opposed to somebody like West Jessamine traveling an hour and 15 minutes to Pulaski.
