This is possibly the best game of all the first-round district matchups within the region. Two of the best teams in the region, who have a history of extremely close matchups in the postseason. Both teams have high hopes of making a big run in the regional tournament, however only one of them will even be in it. This one will be special, and I am expecting a great game! Their regular season matchup was won by Walton-Verona thanks to a buzzer-beating layup by Aaron Gutman. Grant County is coming into the game on fire, on a 3-game win streak including a huge win over a top-20 team in Mason County. They are led by Dylan Hammonds, averaging 26.3 ppg, 13.5 rpg, and shooting 53.7% from the field and 78.7% from the line.

I am expecting this one to come down to the wire, just as their matchup a couple weeks ago did.

Game is tonight at 7:00PM!  Tickets are on Simon Kenton High School's GoFan, I was told they might sell out so get them soon!

  • Honestly, this game is just too close to call, and I'm getting no gut reaction.  But I'll stick my neck out anyway, tonights winner is WV.

I can not find it anywhere, if I find out otherwise I will post the link in this thread.

Very hard game to predict because WV is so unpredictable and so dependent on one facet- shooting. They shoot well they win. They don’t it could be a blowout. I think grant is the better team and a real threat to win region but I’m super nervous for them tonight. First round can be the hardest to play loose. Walton won a very low scoring game last time- surprising. My gut tells me they play free and easy and shoot well tonight and pull off the upset.

I look for Grant to clamp down defensively and win by 10+

GC has had a magical season, losing tonight would tarnish that.  I can’t see them losing.

Referees just walked out. One of them has got to be 6’8.

14-6 WV… 3:06 to go in the 1st. Walton has TONS of offensive rebounds, hammonds only with 1 shot attempt.
