Final schedule is out. Looks like the game originally slated against Bethlehem is now switched to Thomas Nelson, Woodford County has been swapped for Shelby County, and Fort Knox has been added to finish things out. All road games.

Aug 18 at Thomas Nelson

Aug 25 at Atherton
Sep 1 at Shelby County
Sep 8 at Seneca
Sep 15 - BYE
Sep 22 at Fort Knox
Sep 29 vs. Fern Creek
Oct 6 at Washington County (District beginning 2024)
Oct 13 at Lexington Christian Academy (District beginning 2024)
Oct 20 at Shawnee (District beginning 2024)
Oct 27 at Central

More football is always great in my book! However, I fear that jumping in head first with this schedule, along with the fact that the Lions will play exclusively road games may turn some kids away.

Is there any precedence to schools starting a program? What did the schools that did it right do? What about the schools that did it wrong?

I remember when South Warren started their program over a decade ago (it was a new school in Bowling Green), their first season was junior varsity, only. There were no seniors in the school. However, if I remember correctly, they played some JV games on Friday nights against schools whose varsity had a bye week [I could be misremembering all of that]. The next season they played in a district and were competitive, then gradually built the program as the school enrollment also grew.

That's easier said than done in a county school with specific enrollment boundaries, whereas WEB DuBois is more like a "private" public school without a neighborhood following. I think their biggest concern would be becoming something of a feeder school for the larger private schools and high-level football publics in Jefferson County.

One reason they have lost kids to privates is they haven't had athletics facilities but that changes next year when new school is built.

If I'm not mistaken, they played a freshman only schedule in 2021, a JV schedule in 2022 and now starting their Varsity schedule in year 3.  Playing some of the teams like Central, LCA (district) and Fern Creek might be a bit much, but there are 4 winnable games on that schedule for them (Ft. Knox, Washington Co., Shawnee & Thomas Nelson) so that's not too terrible for a 1st year Varsity schedule.

That was my view, too. One-third for sure losses, one-third toss ups, and one-third historically winnable (saying that without knowledge of the WEB DuBois team).

10. No gambling, bookmaking or point spread comments are allowed in any of the high school forums. Figures of speech that use gambling terms may not be used in any of the high school forums (i.e. bet, over/under, spread, parlay, chips, line, odds, wager). All gambling comments are permitted in the non-high school forums as long as they do not involve any high school sports, students, or student-athletes.

Schedule has once again been revised, adding the game against Woodford County back on the board in place of Shelby County:

Aug 18 at Thomas Nelson
Aug 25 at Atherton
Sep 1 at Woodford County
Sep 8 at Seneca
Sep 15 - BYE
Sep 22 at Fort Knox
Sep 29 vs. Fern Creek
