January 12, 200719 yr Okay, I need to get this straight. Chad sends Pepto Bismol to the Browns' DBs because he'll give them an ulcer, has a horrible day, and is funny and entertaining. Shawne sends popcorn to a guy that has been running him down all over the place in the press to enjoy watching me on TV and he is arrogant, not a class act, a jerk, etc. Makes perfect sense. Frankly, it doesn't bother me in the least. I think Taylor politic'ing for Defensive Player of the Year in the media was equally as offensive...if not moreso. Is every player that's ever failed a drug test a loser and a cheater? I mean, is that the hard-line approach we're going to take?
January 12, 200719 yr Excellent point. Its a fine line but they need to be nasty. Taylor didn't need to make his comments. He won the award, just be a gracious winner and move on. While we all have our suspiscions, it has not been proven that Merriman took 'roids. Seeing as there is not reliable test for HGH, he may have taken an ephedrine substitute, who knows. The fact that this was his second failed test makes him an idiot, however, he was not the only one acting classless. All Taylor has to do is accept the award, there was no need to call out Merriman.

If everyone looks at it like that then why wouldn't they go head and try it. If everyone will forgive them?
January 12, 200719 yr How else are you going to take it?? If everyone looks at it like that then why wouldn't they go head and try it. If everyone will forgive them? You don't think the fans of local teams forgive them? I've seen many Bengal fans say how much they like Ahmad Brooks and how good he'll be in the future -- he failed a drug test. My point is to permanently write a guy off for failing a drug test is a dangerously short-sighted plan to take.

Everyone makes mistakes.

It is a good thing the Bengal fans are forgiving, that has turned into a full time job!

YES and cheating is something that reflects character, and not in a good way.

Postive drug test isn't proof???? It's some pretty stone cold evidence if it isn't proof. I don't think he tested positive for HGH, and ephidrine is an energy supplement that also helps people lose weight. I'm pretty sure he tested positive twice for steroids, straight steroids. That also would explain his dominance and why he plays like he's taking something.
January 12, 200719 yr Some will remember that Miamis Jason Taylor said that anyone who has been suspended during the season for using performance enhancing drugs should be ineligible for individual awards (and I agree). San Diego's Shawn Merriman, he of the 4-game suspension, responded by sending Taylor a "Lights Out" hat and some popcorn "so he can watch San Diego in the playoffs." Wow. Thats good stuff...
January 12, 200719 yr Are they losers? Not necessarily. Are they cheaters? YES and cheating is something that reflects character, and not in a good way. So they are permanently scarred in your eyes for failing a drug test? Am I reading between the lines correctly here? If a person cheats, they are permanently considered a cheater and a person of poor character in your eyes. Is that right?
January 12, 200719 yr So they are permanently scarred in your eyes for failing a drug test? Am I reading between the lines correctly here? If a person cheats, they are permanently considered a cheater and a person of poor character in your eyes. Is that right? That's a pretty fair assessment. I will never forget Billy Hatcher using a corked bat, Sammy Sosa using a corked bat, Big Mac and Bonds are cheaters, and whenever I think of any of these athletes that's the first thing I think of. The baseball HOF voters apparently feel the same way. When I was growing up I cheated in anything I played (pick up games). Winning was that important to me. It still is, however, I have come to realize that if you have to cheat to win than the win isn't authentic. It didn't come from being better, playing harder, or getting lucky. It came from cheating. I grew up. Apparently some of these athletes didn't.
January 12, 200719 yr That was funny and didn't Cleveland win that game too? Well maybe the people in San Diego will think this is funny. I agree, they are somewhat along the same lines.
January 12, 200719 yr Big Mac and Bonds are cheaters Can you refresh my memory on how many drug tests these two guys failed?
