Okay, I need to get this straight. Chad sends Pepto Bismol to the Browns' DBs because he'll give them an ulcer, has a horrible day, and is funny and entertaining. Shawne sends popcorn to a guy that has been running him down all over the place in the press to enjoy watching me on TV and he is arrogant, not a class act, a jerk, etc. Makes perfect sense.

 

Frankly, it doesn't bother me in the least. I think Taylor politic'ing for Defensive Player of the Year in the media was equally as offensive...if not moreso.

 

Is every player that's ever failed a drug test a loser and a cheater? I mean, is that the hard-line approach we're going to take?

Frankly, I don't find any of these incidents to be anything but classless. Yes, we should take a hard line.

Just because the popcorn came from a man who was guilty of steroid use, doesnt mean its not as funny as the pepto or as equally forgivable.

First off, I don't recall CJ failing any Drug test. CJ has fun with his antics, as do most players he pokes fun at. And your question...Is every player thats failed a drug test a cheater and a loser? I would have to say, if a player is taking steroids to give them an advantage over their competition "knowing" that it is illegal, then yes, that is cheating.

The question we will never know: How much the steroids helped this year?

Postive drug test isn't proof???? It's some pretty stone cold evidence if it isn't proof. I don't think he tested positive for HGH, and ephidrine is an energy supplement that also helps people lose weight. I'm pretty sure he tested positive twice for steroids, straight steroids. That also would explain his dominance and why he plays like he's taking something.

So how do you know that is why he has been dominant? Seems like he was just as dominant when he came back from suspension. My whole problem with this is, I agree with Taylor. If you used illegal substances and got caught, then you should be ineligible that season for awards. Now, my major gripe is that Taylor did not need to say anything. He could have won the award, thanked the voters, and been fine. If I'm Merriman, I don't know that I send popcorn, while I think some of it was in fun, but I do take offense. He made the mistake, he fulfilled his suspension, and Taylor should have left well enough alone. I do not think that Taylor showed very much class.

I didn't say I knew it, but it does explain why MerriSteroid seems to play in another gear (especially before the suspension). I agree that Taylor appeared very selfish throughout the ordeal.

Maybe b/c he's a good player with or without whatever it was. It could easily have been ephedrine or another banned thermogenic that he used for extra energy.

I agree with what Taylor said, and I also agree that he probably shouldn't have said it. What Merriman did was kind of funny, but the fact that he has failed drug tests and then takes offense to someone calling him out on it is why he isn't too high on my favorite players list.

Granted, but do you want the one person who beat you in the Defensive Player of the Year award rubbing your nose in it in the media? He was wrong, it was front page news throughout his suspension, he lost the award b/c of it. What Taylor did was add insult to injury, and it would have made anyone upset.

Anyone who thinks Lights Out isn't a special talent is crazy, he had 17 sacks in 12 games and led the league in sacks (?). He may be cocky and have some off the field issues, but why should a player as good/classy as Jason Taylor lobby for an award?

 

You wouldn't see LT or Peyton Manning bad mouthing Tom Brady or Larry Johnson because they want the MVP award.

Easy there bro, I'm neither an apologist nor a fan of either Bonds or McGwire. However, what rule in baseball did McGwire break? Once steroids were banned, how many drug tests did he fail?

 

I think the bottom line is this: you guys have all clearly led more perfect lives than most and are more comfortable convicting people to a life of labels for making a mistake. Good for you, I'm happy for you. I'm not so fortunate, and have had the benefit of people forgiving me -- so I guess I'm trying to look at things differently.

 

To those of you unable to grasp my stance on Merriman's popcorn, I think it was fine. A little bit of smack, sure, but Taylor had it coming.
