Greenup County (8-4) has now done some things this season they haven't done very often.  They have won 8 games in a season, something they haven't done since 1998.  They have now advanced to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2007.  And, they have beaten Lawrence County, twice in the same season, something I don't think they have ever done.

Mason County (12-0) likes records too, like perfect records.  Mason is undefeated on the season with shutouts in each of the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The good news for Greenup County, no one has scored more points on Mason County than Greenup County.  So, they have proven it can be done and that they are capable of doing it.  Greenup County  held Mason County to one of their lowest scoring games of the season.  The defense is capable.

The good news for Mason County, they haven't lost a game all season, just keep doing what you do.  And, Mason County has already beaten Greenup County once this season (34-29), two weeks ago, so round two should go the same way, right?

The win over Lawrence Co has boosted Greenup’s confidence. They seem to do well on the road and they are hungry for another shot at Mason Co.  I would like to see this go Greenup’s way.

I would say they are a little hungry.  They gave Mason one of their closest things to a defeat on the season.  Mason's closest games were:  Boyd County (1 point), Tates Creek (3 points) and Greenup (5 points).  The other 9 games were not very close.

Barnburner.

I want so badly to pick Greenup. Last week's performance was super impressive. No one in that locker room wants this to end for coach Moore. They're getting great contributions from Ike Henderson, but the Musketeers go as Tyson Sammons goes. And that's what concerns me here. Mason has seen him once. I think they'll be better prepared to defend him this time. If you're the Royals, make someone else beat you.

Heart says Greenup. Head says Mason. I'm going with my heart to send some good vibes from afar. If East Carter can break through, so can Greenup County.

If I was feeling stronger I’d dig out the old winter filming clothes and go watch this one. I think Greenup has the ability to pull the upset if they play sound football. I’d take Greenup in a 3 point or less win if turnover bug gets to them it could be a long night.

Have they?  In the first match-up, Sammons had 9 carries for 50 yards and two rushing touchdowns.  But, he was 15 for 25 for 173 yards in the passing game.

I think Greenup was working on the passing game, more than Sammons' running game.  And, it was still a 5 point game.

Many times Mason's defense looks like a Dimond 7, I guess it's technically a 4-4, but I think you will see a different Greenup game plan from what was ran in the first match-up.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I agree, Greenup will go as Sammons goes, and I doubt he has 9 carries this time around.

I haven't seen either of these two teams play. From the description, Greenup production is almost a one-man show, and my experience tells me that that is awful tough to win with at this stage of the playoffs.  That plus the home game favors Mason by a tick.

They've seen him up close as far as what he brings to the table. I think that counts for a more than watching a few hours of film. I'd rather be seeing someone for a second time as opposed to the first, unless it was a bad first date.

And I agree, his rush attempts should double, at minimum. Ride the horse that brought you.

For the most part, you are correct.  Sammons is a sophomore QB and is the biggest threat for Greenup. But, he is a potent passer, that is something that is commonly overlooked, and he has two or three quality receivers.  Most of the time this season, Greenup has relied on the run game, but I think they have a potent passing game, when utilized.  Plus, they have a quality RB that most teams would be glad to have.  He is a good change of pace from the QB keepers.

In other words, Sammons is the game plan, but the offense is more than one diminutional, just one aspect gets the most attention.

I understand what you are saying, but I can tell you Greenup's game plan that first game was nothing like their normal game plan.  I think Sammons will have 20+ carries this time around, and that alone will open up the passing game more.  Plus, you add Henderson with 20 carries and I think Mason will see a totally different look from Greenup's offense this time around.

I think Mason's defensive front is good, but I see it playing into what Greenup will want to do.  After we see Mason adjust to Greenup's offense, I think that is where we will see what Greenup's passing game can do.

But, we will see very soon, I suppose.

This is going to be a pretty exciting match-up.  I'll try to give some updates, when I can.  I may like Greenup County, but I have to worry about Raceland too, you know.

We will see how it goes.  If Raceland runs away with their game, this may be the place to be.
