Raiders Look To Steal One Over One Seed Dawgs

Records: Lawrence County (8-2) | East Carter (6-4)

BGP Ranking: Lawrence County (#7 in 3A)

Series History: Lawrence County leads 19-10 all-time

Table Setter: The Dawgs and Raiders met in Grayson on September 23rd, with Lawrence County procuring a 42-26 win behind Dylan Ferguson's 183 rushing yards and four touchdowns. It was East Carter's first loss after a 5-0 start. Three more losses followed, consecutively, before the skid was halted last week against Martin County.

The first encounter was part of a seven game win streak for Lawrence County that ran into the Raceland buzzsaw to conclude the regular season. They'll have to reset and prepare for a capable opponent that's already seen them once. A second meeting usually benefits the underdog come playoff time.

I sound like a broken record, but, "the hardest thing to do in high school football is beat the same team twice in the same season".  I stand behind it.  I have seen teams win a regular season game by 40 and lose to the same team in the playoffs.  That big win plays games in the heads of teenagers.

With that said, I think this game will be a lot closer than the regular season game.  Lawrence is out for vengeance after loosing the season finally to Raceland and losing a game to Greenup County that I'm positive they would love to have a do over with.  East Carter started strong and had some trouble at the end, agains good teams.  They got a taste of some real success last season, and they want more of it, I'm sure.

I have to go with Lawrence County, but in a closer game in Round 2 for 2022.

While I agree with your philosophy, I think Lawrence County is a better team today than they were six weeks ago and East Carter is a little worse (and that might be the wrong word; perhaps they were a bit overinflated in the rankings by their great season last year). I think Lawrence wins here by three scores.

As much as I would like to see my Raiders pull this one off I just don't see it happening especially with their stud running back Isaac Boggs out with a knee injury. I hope I'm wrong and the Raiders can pull it out but it will be tough.

I think Lawrence is a good team.  I don't think East Carter got worse, or has degraded, I think they just played a group of very good team at the end of the season.   I know they have some injuries, but I think that tough stretch has caused some improvement.  I think Lawrence County wins, but I think it will be a game.

That's a huge blow right there. Boggs picked up where Charlie Terry left off last year. I wasn't sure they had anyone capable of filling that void alone.

You did a much better job explaining what I was aiming for in my post.
