Ohio County (3-7) at Bowling Green (8-2)

The Eagles of Ohio County head South along the old Green River Parkway to take on Bowling Green.  Just like it's 1983!  These 2 played annually for 8 straight years between 1983 and 1990.  There was also one additional Regional Quarterfinal played at El Donaldson stadium back in 2008.  BG won all those matchups with the closest being their first game in 1983 with BG earning a 26-13 road win.

The Eagles have defeated Muhlenberg County, Marion County and Breckinridge County this year.  Of their seven losses, the team that most resembles this BG team is Owensboro.  The Red Devils beat Ohio County 56-7 this season.

Based on this season’s stats, the Eagles typically rush 30 plays a game and pass 5 plays a game.  That’s a tough combo against Bowling Green to be honest.  Eagle SR Matthew Smith is a dual-threat QB who has run 143 times this season for 851 yards and 9 TDs.  Smith has also passed 6 for 13 times with 186 yards 1 TD vs 2 INTs.  Two other QBs have also played some this season, but with generally the same success rate proportionally.  #6 RB/WR SR Jaylen Walker is also a good player rushing 29 times for 387 yards and 5 TDs and leading the team with 14 receptions for 260 yards and 3 TDs.

The Eagle defense is led by JR LB Noah Phelps with 81 tackles on the year with 3 tackles for loss.

For the Purples, life on the road came to an end last week (at least for awhile) with a stunning 31-0 loss to the best team in the State St. X.  I won't belabor this, but BG didn't play with energy, fire or passion and had 2 known injuries in the game, a BOATLOAD of penalties and no points.  If you want to go deep into the playoffs, the Purples will have to regroup.  I think they will.  Onward!

It will be Senior Night for the Purples who will celebrate 21 seniors for their outstanding contributions to the program.  Well done!  This is always an emotional night, so glad this won’t be the toughest of games for the Purples.  What is the best strategy for Ohio to take this coming Friday night?  And to be honest, when do you anticipate the running clock?

The Ohio County football team…will have its season ended swiftly this next Friday.

BG 49-0

Running clock begins in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

At least there's gonna be concession popcorn?

BG: 46 (Running clock first half)

OC: 0

This is a game where BG just hopes for no injuries.

This will be over as quick as the Mike Tyson vs Michael Spinks fight.

Purples need to get up 4 scores and then get the skill players on both sides of ball out of the game.  Let JV play entire second half.

How banged up are the Purples right now?

8:15 to go 1st half.  28-0 BG.  But Purples have fumbled twice.

Hard to keep focus in this one.

BG fumbled on the 1 going in for TD.  No matter it will still be running clock.

35-0 BG.  Nearing halftime.
