I've heard that Middleton isn't having the year everyone thought he would. Any Mason faithful know what's going on? He played better than Miller or Turner against Scott Co. last year.

In the 5/3rd against Russell he played well but I think he may have played only half the game if you add up his minutes.

In my (unprofessional) opinion, Russ has had to deal with expectations that were a little unrealistic (witness the BGP thread regarding whether or not he could break Lofton's school record for points). Sometimes having a career game against great competition can be hard to live up to; as lots of folks think that once you have a "career game", you should have a career game every time out.

 

I also remember some undue criticism last year at state tourney time when Russ got hurt. He took a lot of flack for not being able to play; but it's a little tough when walking is a chore.

 

Right now, this is first and foremost Darius Miller's team, and will be next year also (although Middleton and Setty will play huge parts in any success the Royals will have). While there is a lot of talent here, it's still the D. Miller show. When he has an off game; others get their chance to shine. Like Russ in the Scott County game last year. Like the Campbell County game last year, where Tyreese Scott had something like 31 and staved off the Camels' upset bid.

 

Russ is one of five Royals who are shooting better than 33.3% from distance so far this year. Scott is at 42%, Browning is at 40%, Russ is at 39%, Setty is at 38% and Darius is at 34%. When you have that many weapons, no one person should get all the shots.

 

Finally, the flu bug has hit Mason County. There's talk of closing the school if attendance stays under 90%. From what I hear, and it's not official, Russ was under the weather last week and as a result, played more sparingly in the last 2 games of the MCIT.

Everyone is going to be wanting to see Miller and Mackey Friday night. Both are big time D-1 prospects and guys who we may see in the NBA someday. But Matt Walls at this point in time may very well be the best player playing Friday night. I really like Scott Co in this one. 2 stars (who play well together) is better than 1.

I didnt realize the Royals were shooting from distance as well as they are. These are pretty darn good stats.

I understand Russ was under the weather last week but is better now. He is a fine athlete and fine young man. It seems to me that sometime Russ plays his best against the better teams. He will have a chance tomorrow night as there probalby isn't a better team in the state that Scot County.

You are right I think this year and next it will be Miller's team but look out the next year for Russ. Must remember he is a sophomore.

I will be listening tomorrow night and cheering at the computer for the Royals to pull a big upset. The Royals just might pull the upset if they can duplicate the toughness, strong defense and physical play they showed last week against a fine Brossart team. GO ROYALS!!!

May want to get there a little before,I know last time i was at Scott County they have some reserve seating for there fans in some seats that you wasnt allowed to sit in.Not sure if they still do it or not.
