Just watched the game again. It's like a good pot of chili...even better the next day!

Ryle had the running clock going with 4:57 left in the 3rd quarter w/ 8 minute quarters. That's what we should be discussing.

I charted the stats, but I'll keep them to myself. I don't want see anymore heads exploding on here. Let's just say, Verax proved once again he's on a different level. Ant Coppola is becoming one of the best WR's around. Ryle's D was nasty last night! As big as Highlands o-line is, they had no answer for Ryle's pressure.

Great job all around, players and coaches! Looking forward to the CovCath game next week.

If I recall, you were the one who brought up the hit in question in another thread. Most HHS people would’ve been happy to say good game and move on, but you brought the hit up and said the flag and ejection wasn’t warranted.

Ok just now catching up with this thread. Both blocks were illegal blocks, and both blocks were by both teams biggest and most physical players. Which is going to make a blindside block even bigger. B

  • Anyone got the stats of the game?  That debate should get me through the rest of my workday.

Lol! Our kids were being cursed as they walked off the field. I don’t think me asking how the injured player was doing and sending prayers prevented them from saying good game, but OK.

Your kids were also cheering while a kid laid motionless on the ground. So ok.

Watching the video from the perspective of someone with no dog in the fight, there was a very audible gasp throughout the stadium when the hit was made, not cheering. Then some cheering did pick up as the play continued when the ball was returned decently far downfield. I didn't hear anything that I felt sounded particularly out of the ordinary for a play like that, and I definitely didn't hear anyone cheering specifically for the hit being made.

Complete nonsense. Nobody cheered the injury. I understand the running clock stings, but don’t throw false accusations just to diminish a great performance by Ryle.

Does the NFHS specify a difference between a blindside block penalty and a targeting penalty?

My understanding was that targeting required the player to launch themself at a defenseless player, and/or lead with the crown of their helmet. I thought if neither of those conditions exist, then the penalty is only a blindside block. I could be totally mistaken about that. But I thought blindside blocking was a PF, and then the targeting call is a PF and requires ejection of the player.

In the screen captures posted in the thread and in the Hudl video, it looked to me like there was no leading with the crown of the helmet (I see facemask into shoulder/side of helmet) and I definitely don't see any launching taking place.

Exactly.

They did. When they walked back to the side line after their meeting in the end zone. I was standing there and watched the whole thing.

"They did" what? Smile? Laugh? Be happy they just dominated a game? I'm sure they did, but what they didn't do was laugh at a kid who was hurt. And this I know for fact. And your accusation is ridiculous. You sound like one of the adults cursing at freshmen boys, because I also know for fact several Highlands parents did that.

Unreal.
