Defenders and Indians Breathing Deep To Catch Second Wind

Records: Bryan Station (5-3) | Madison Central (7-1)

BGP Ranking: Bryan Station (#8 in 6A)

Series History: Bryan Station leads 13-11 all-time

Table Setter: At the onset of the season, the Defenders and Indians were top contenders for the 6A "At-Large" title. Things haven't shaken out exactly the way each envisioned, but we've still arrived at this destination with a district championship up for grabs. Station, our pre-season #5, took a hard left at Albuquerque on their way to an 0-3 start. But the early season strength of schedule has helped pave the road to five straight wins, clobbering city rivals and district mates by an average margin of 36 points.

While Station stumbled out of the gate, Madison Central was racking up wins, though nothing came easy. The Indians lived dangerously, winning their first three games by a combined eight points. Injuries and a visit to Pike County finally tripped them up, sending them tumbling from the 6A rankings. They now find themselves where the Defenders were several weeks ago: on the road back to contender status. The journey for both has included wins over GRC and Oldham County, setting this up as the de facto district title game. Both routed Oldham County, but Madison Central got a second half battle from the Cardinals whereas Station hung a running clock on GRC a week earlier.

Weathering early season haymakers and key injuries have sent them on minor detours, but the ceiling for both remains high. It doesn't hurt having a JT Haskins Jr. or a healthy Brady Hensley on your roster. The latter had over 200 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in last year's playoff win for the Indians.

I know Madison Central has a good team, but they have not been as impressive as I would have thought.  After a brutal early season schedule, the Defenders seem to have hit their stride and are playing some very good football.  Don’t know if it is considered an upset but I will take Bryan Station for the district championship.

Madison Central 21

BS 7

I'm going with Station they had a really tough 3 games to start the season and I think at home they are just better than Central. Station 21 Central 18.

Station 27

JT Haskins Jr, wow!

He just returned a punt for a TD (got called back) but that would have been his 3rd TD of the game.

MC punter just launched one 60+ yards. Station pinned inside its 10.

Still 14-0.

Another long touchdown wiped out for BS just now. They've got some athletes. If not for the flags, this one would just about be over.
