Beechwood will host Dixie Heights in Ft. Mitchell with their usual 7:30 pm start.

The Tigers are coming into the game after a week off. Much needed for the Tigers after a tough loss to rival Covington Catholic and hopefully with another week for some key injured players to perhaps heal and return. The Tigers are led by their outstanding defense featuring DE Xavier Campbell (#6 in the entire state in sacks), LB Mitchell Berger and D1 commit CB Antonio Robinson Jr. On offense, RB Mitchell Berger is #2 in the state in scoring.

The Dixie Heights Colonels have been through a season of ups and downs. They had a thrilling, improbable come from behind win over Lloyd in their season opener and were 2-1 with Covington Catholic and Highlands next up. Things went south very quickly in lopsided losses to those two standout 5A programs. QB Armani Gregg is a two way threat passing and also the rushing leader for Dixie. Brach Rice came on to take snaps at QB last week so there could be an interesting switch coming in this game. Rice is the leading tackler on the defense so a move to QB could impact both sides of the ball for Dixie. 

One of the key things to watch in this game will be Dixie's constant hurry up offense against the Beechwood defense. Coach Rash often likes to call defensive plays after a team breaks huddle. That could make for an interesting game of cat and mouse between the coaches.

What do you expect in this matchup?

If Dixie does not improve upon the execution and clean up the lack of discipline then I see a decided advantage for Beechwood. One area that Beechwood could exploit is the Dixie secondary but I have not seen any evidence as of yet from the Tigers that they are a consistent threat throwing downfield. Rice is very physical and can match up with Berger in that area. I would be surprised if Rice did not follow Berger everywhere he goes. Any update on Waddell and Hayden for BW?

Beechwood better get a Hat on #8 from Dixie. If not it will be a long Night for the young Beechwood QB. Whoa Nelly.

 

 

Dixie is horrible. Beechwood by many touchdowns. 

If you’re looking for a silver lining for the red colonels, two of the last three contests have been close and last time Dixie was at Beechwood the score says it was close but it was all Dixie in that game. That’s it, that’s all I got. Dixies weakness is their offense and Beechwoods strength is their defense. Dixie is in the middle of a brutal stretch of schedule where they have played the haves and the have mores. If BW can run the ball as we all know they can, it will likely wear down a Dixie defense that could use a vacation after the work they have put in the last couple weeks. Whether it’s a running clock, shootout, or a defensive game, Beechwood is the winner in every scenario.

Dixie had the ball first and threw 2 ints but the first was negated by a defensive holding penalty. 
Beechwood then scored to go up 7-0 on a 35 yard Berger TD run. 
Dixie moved the ball a bit then went straight backward aided by 3 or 4 penalties against Dixie. Dixie then punted.

Beechwood has ball and good news for Tigers is Clay Hayden is back for his first Varsity start. Austin Waddell still out a few more weeks.

Berger another long TD run and then kicks the XP. 14-0 Tigers. Berger has 2 Carrie’s 85 yards and 2 TD’s.

Dixie has a nice throw out to midfield on the first play of their drive. Drive then stalls and Dixie turns it over on downs at the 45 yard line. Beechwood with ball.

After a long pass from Hayden to McCormick, Mitchell Berger bulls over Rice for Dixie and gets his 3rd TD of the night. 21-0 Beechwood after the extra point. Berger is on a mission!

Dixie having a nice drive down to Beechwood’s 35 but the 1st quarter now has ended 21-0 Beechwood!

Dixie is stopped on 4th down from the Beechwood 31 so Beechwood takes over.

Liam McCormick now has 3 catches 68 yards. This offense looks different with Clay at QB.
