Pleasure Ridge Park's Zee McCown transferring to Winchendon Prep

I guess HS basketball is turning into the three and done.

This seems to be a growing issue, with a number of talented kids leaving Ky for prep opportunities. It looks like it is much bigger than Ky though.  I did some quick looking at the 2023 ESPN top 100 and from what I can tell 40 or so are at prep schools or will be this going season.  I support the kids and their decisions if it really is a better opportunity, but I hate it for the schools they left behind that built programs and game plans around them, along with the excitement of HS basketball in general.  I am not closed minded and can see the benefits of being at a prep, but lost is the comradery of a team and support of a community.  Anyone else have any thoughts?

Totally agree with your thoughts. I really question the ability of some of these of these kids playing at that level.  What ever happened to the old school saying, if you can play they will find you?

Just read where McCowan was player of the year for his school or conference. Averaged 16 points per game and 11 assists per game! WOW!!

What kind of numbers do you think he would have put up at PRP.

And the Thousands of dollar’s questions???

Where is he going to school next year?

So you're saying these kids don't like the attention?

Not sure. But I would say in the 20+ range. I was amazed by the 11 assists a game though.

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here and say that I don’t have an issue with this at all. Happy for the kid.

That's your privilege.

So where is he going to college?

Does he have any offers?

Someone who knows better than I; why do we have no Prep schools in KY? Is that considered a “charter school”?

Good luck, how did that work out for the Cov. Holy Cross Kid?  Here's how much it cost also.

You’re right.  It may not work out for everyone who goes the prep school route. (Gabe Sisk came back to Ballard mid season.) But nothing in life works out for everyone all the time. Kentucky kids Zee McCowan,Kaleb Glenn,& Kaden Magwood had really strong years in the prep school realm. Salute to them.
