9th Region Coaches

Featured Replies

The conversation last night in the stands between games at BB&T, at least in the area I was sitting in, was coaches making the Regional Finals and what a big deal that is.  So last night I looked up 9th Region Finals Appearances since Scott Ruthsatz arrived at CovCath (the 2011-12 season).  Like him, like them, don't like him, don't like them, but what they've done over the last 11 years is impressive.  I didn't realize how good they've been at NKU until seeing it in black & white, and beyond that, as the rest of the numbers show you, just how hard it is to even get to the Championship Game at BB&T Arena.

9th Region FInals' Appearances since the 2011-12 season (inclusive of this year, with tomorrow night's Championship Game all set):

1.  Scott Ruthsatz  -- 9

2.  Jason Booher  -- 2

2.  Kevin Listerman  -- 2

2.  Roger Stainforth  -- 2

5.  Grant Brannen  -- 1

5.  Ron Dawn  -- 1

5.  Erik Goetz  -- 1

5.  Mike Listerman  -- 1

5.  Greg McQueary  -- 1

5.  Matt Otte  -- 1

5.  Tim Sullivan  -- 1

So, how has CCH accomplished this?

Because it was asked in the girls' thread:

Ruthsatz -- CovCath

Booher -- Holmes

K. Listerman -- Highlands

Stainforth -- Dixie

Brannen -- NewCath

Dawn -- NewCath

Goetz -- Beechwood

M. Listerman -- Holmes

McQueary -- Boone County

Otte -- Conner

Sullivan -- Cooper

He is a great coach no doubt. This is also a great accomplishment. With that said I would say he has done probably what he should have been able to do given the talent they have had during that time span.

During that time span they basically been head and shoulders at least talent wise better than everyone else the majority of those years. Or at worst maybe on a given year one other team could probably come close talent wise to competing with them.

So it is a great accomplishment because you still have to go out and actually do it, even if you are the most talented. With that said it also should be somewhat expected that at worst they would make the 9th region finals with them basically have more talent every year than every other team in the 9th.

Both boys and girls have had 11 coaches make a 9th Region Final in this 11 year span, and both boys and girls have had 9 schools represented.

I'm about as far from a CovCath lover as can be, but that is IMPRESSIVE!

My thoughts exactly…. Great accomplishment no doubt but with the talent they have year in and year out this is no surprise.

But the talent they have wasn’t like this before Scott got here. They have developed and attracted kids, no matter who likes it or doesn’t like it. You build it they will come, kids know their development is top notch. That’s easy to play for, think you guys are taking the easy way out saying that. Talent is better in part because of him and the staff he put in place.

This is what happens when you build a top notch program. Everybody and everything around you elevates, the home grown talent and the kids you bring in. Just saying right away their talent is better, isnt giving credit to the guys that have made it better.

Darn, why didn't I think of that?

Probably too hung up on trying to rekindle the flames on a tired debate. ?

Yep, where there is smoke, you'll usually find a fire.
