Newport had it to 6 with under 2 minutes left but couldn’t stay in it.

Were you surprised by them being so close so late?

Yes, Dixie held a comfortable lead most of the game but Newport had a surge late. Defensively Dixie’s length really gave Newport trouble. Really clogged the passing lanes and made Newport really work for every score in the half court.

I didn't expect it to play out like that.

Newport has some young talent. Their 8th and 9th grade classes are loaded up. I would not be surprised to see them make a run for the 9th in 2 or 3 years.

Agree, but will they stay??? Hearing rumblings that one or two are headed across the river.  If they stay, Newport will be very, very good.

Ohio.

I thought Ohio had a rule you have to live in Ohio to play sports

They used to. That’s no longer the case.

Are we 100% sure that they all don’t live in Ohio already?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care and hope they all stay put, Turner along with Walker from Lloyd could be exciting the next 3 years in the 9th.

But I know the appeal of 8th graders playing JV/Varsity in KY is appealing for elite players from Ohio.

What year did this change?

Not sure, but I just read it recently.

I'm no lawyer, but it sure looks like you have to live in Ohio to play there.
