It seems that Lexington Schools are starting take things serious and putting the right leaders in the right spots to make Lexington football relevant again. Obviously programs like LCA w/ Doug Charles and FD with McPeek have had the right guys in for a while, but Bryan Station with Hoskins, Lafayette with Atchley and LC bringing in Bathiany from the college ranks are showing that these schools are tired of losing. I don't know much about the TC hire from within and I feel that Henry Clay needs some changes but overall it seems things are trending in the right direction. A ton of talent in the area just needs the right leadership. Last but not least Sayre and Chad Pennington have put dubs on the board early and often in their short existence.

I am just going to say it ...

Shouldn't the more important question be: "when are the Lexington schools who constantly toot their horns about D1 talent going to put the blather aside and produce a championship?"

 

Its great that there is so much talent accumulated at these certain schools in Lexington ... But is the right leadership truly there if all this D1 talent continues to not produce a championship? 

 

I would also have to wonder ... Do you ever think the non-"D1" talent in these programs start to get the impression that championships are secondary to constantly hearing about all the D1 guys in their program?

Having handful of DI or college talent player(s) on your team doesn’t always translate to state championship. Just ask corbin, lca, douglass, heck lafayette a few years back had a handful of power 5 kids and some are in the NFL and they couldn’t win one. My point is, a program got to have a mixture of discipline/ good players and coaching staff and I will say this till the day I die… top programs should  not have cupcake schedule and expect to go deep into the playoffs. If they do make a deep run, they usually get turned away.

I agree. Male was loaded with D1 guys this year and didn't win Championship.

@gbballfan21 could have set my watch to you responding. It is obvious that your disdain for Central KY football and in particular LCA runs deep. Did Marty Moore pick on you as a kid lol? With that aside, I think in an elite program the goal is always to win state but that is not the end all be all to equate to a successful program. A good staff understands all the goals of their players and helps them achieve those goals. Life goes on after wining a state title or making an all state team. Stay with me you're going to love this stat. LCA will put 10 guys into the college football ranks from the 21 team (D1 and D3) that is unofficially the most out of any school in the entire state from any class. Sure their upset they didn't win the state title the last 2 years losing by a combined 3 points but their guys know that high school is just one of the stops in the game of life and those experiences will benefit them down the road. The irony is that two guys who played against each other in the state title games are now teammates at EKU and will be working together to win a conference championship and bowl game for the next 4 years. My original post was about Lexington schools bringing in quality coaches to help develop these kids so that they can taste victory and have the opportunity to achieve on the next level if that's their goal. I do hope one day that high school football is as important to the ENTIRE Lexington community as it is in NKY.

@Kanaka Kahakaiagree 100%. All these 10 and 1 teams and they are shocked when they go home early. To some point I agree that as you build a program you have to have some dubs but at some point you have to play the big dogs. Unfortunately some of these teams are victims of their district opponents that they have to play. But now look at Johnson Central who can't even schedule an in-state out of district game.

No disdain whatsoever for central KY football. We just have to constantly hear about how LCA had the highest RPI, LCA had the highest points for per game, LCA had the most D1 and all levels of college signees. I’m just here to remind you that with all that talent, LCA has failed to win a title the last 3 years. It’s starting to sound like Calipari when he loses in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 and wants to forget about not winning titles and thumps his chest about how many draft picks he had.

It's not just an LCA thing either. This has been the MO for Lexington football for a long time. Team A is really good, dominating their competition, and then gets smoked in the playoffs. Rinse and repeat.

Who smoked LCA in the playoffs? If you consider 26-2 with the two loses being by 3 total points in the finals with a chance to win in the final minutes being smoked then you have an extremely high bar lol. The entire post is about Lexington football appears to be making the moves so that the level of competition will rise. You can't tell me that out of Clay, Creek, Lafayette and Station that there is not enough talent that if it's developed right can be in the picture year in and year out.
