Confused on this 2A deal.  Why is Lex Cath, a 4A football school, in this tourney?

Basketball All A encompasses the smallest 125 schools

My guess is 2A covers the next 125 schools or something like that

As a Track/XC fan, the way I wrap my head around it is to know which of the three classes a team is placed in for those sports. "2A Championships" are for ~ 3A/4A schools and the "All 'A' Classic" for ~ 1A/2A. In this year's field, Callaway Co. and Lex Cath's opponent in today's final - Knox Central, are also 4A in football. Seven of 16 teams in this year's boys "All A" are 2A for football.

The "2A" has to cast a wider net too, as fewer 3A/4A schools choose to play in it, hence the eight Sectionals as opposed to 16 Regions for the "All A." Defending KHSAA champ Highlands (4A enrollment playing up to 5A in football) would be eligible for the "2A."

The 2A covers those schools under 1000 enrollment that do not qualify for the “All A” events.
