Cincinnati 45 South Florida 28

Recommended Posts

Bearcats get the win in Tampa to move to 10-0.

Need to finish better.

Up 31-7 in the 3rd quarter, allowed USF to cut the lead to 31-21 over the next 3 mins.

Extended the lead to 38-21 and got stopped on the USF 1 on back to back plays after forcing a TO on the kickoff.

Bright spot... Ridder was really good tonight and they won without Jerome Ford. Receivers dropped several passes that would have led to an even bigger night for #9.

SMU up next at Nippert next Sat.

Another too close for comfort game by a team that is supposed to be at a college football playoff level.

Hopefully the Bearcats come out and put it on SMU.

Game was never in doubt or close... Outside of the 3 minute stretch where USF cut the lead to 31-21, UC dominated the game with 506 yds of offense and 30 first downs. USF had 40 yards of offense at the half and didn't get over the 100 yard mark until their second td with 7 mins left in the 3rd qtr....80 of USF 346 yards came on one play.

3 turnovers and 8 penalties for 70 yards are my biggest concern. Couldn't get off the field on 3rd down in the second half either. USF finished 7-13 on 3rd down. Also not punching it in from the 1 to extend the lead to 45-21 midway through the 3rd gave USF some momentum.

Have to get healthy for SMU. Played without Ford (ankle) and starting center Jake Renfro (hip) last night and also lost starting safety Bryan Cook at the beginning of the 3rd qtr to injury. Had a true freshman playing at safety the entire second half and USF took advantage of him play after play.

Ridder is now the all time passing touchdown leader in UC history with 79 touchdowns.

With 41 wins, he's two away from passing Andy Dalton as the 3rd winningest QB in college football history. No chance at catching Kellen Moore (Boise State) with 50 wins....but a national championship run would tie Colt McCoy for 2nd with 45 wins.

So Cincinnati won their game comfortably, maybe not pretty, but by a comfortable margin.  And they drop a spot in the polls to Alabama, who blasted a team they had no business playing this late in the season?  I think the moves are starting to happen to hose the group of five out of their shot.
