I think X will keep this one close, I’ll say Male will win this one, but who knows come playoff time, if X is healthy.

Turnovers are always key. If St. X does not have self inflicted errors it will be a close game. Sivori gives the Tigers a good dual threat option and the Bulldogs have to account for him. 
 

Make Male earn it on offense. They’re a big play offense and the St. X defense must make Male show they can put together good play after good play and not just big play them for TDs.

Jason Frakes posted an article about the injury trend that is taking place at Poplar Level Rd. early in the season. Referenced Monks could play Friday, but everyone else will probably be ready by October. No word on Micah Carter; had MRI this week. 

Coach Kevin Wallace confirmed six starters – including the entire line in the Tigers’ 3-4 alignment – are out and may not return until October. LB Eli Monks will return Friday. Male Selah Brown probable to play Friday. 
 

St. X defense will look much different between now and October. 

I would've picked Male anyway, but with so many holes in X's front seven, the Bulldogs might run away with it. "Run" being the operative word. The Tigers could see a healthy dose of Daniel Swinney. His junior season could turn into an all-state caliber year.

A little history lesson: Last year was only the seventh time in the history of the rivalry - which dates back to 1924 - that Male and St. X didn't play. The other occurrences were 1946, 1977-1980, and 2008. Prior to 1989, the two schools had never met twice in the same season, but they've done so 17 times in the last 32 years. 

Male leads the all-time series 61-45-2.

How come they didn't play in 2008? I can't remember the reason.

Memories!  I always enjoyed games at Male, it was a big time atmosphere nearly every time I was there.
