Caracter had a lot of baggage to even start with. He was booted off his high school team. The one fellow he hung out with had a really shady past, and ultimately caused him to miss a few games.

 

However, I give the kid some credit, he busted his hump and lost a boatload of weight to be ready to play.

 

Something is amiss here.

Sounds like Caracter has some type of attitude/morale problems...Maybe he thought he was too good for the college game...Who knows...Hopefully he can get himself straightened out and back on the right track.

Also, a reminder that when you go for the top level recruits, a lot of times they come with attitudes and you might be just as well off to get the 2nd level instead of the top 10-20 type players.

I think he was saying to have kids such as this year's class (UK's) instead of a bunch of kids that are told to be good by a fast food chain.

Just an observation.. this thread was posted around 1:00pm, Imo if this had been on a U.K. player or Ohio State football player we would have had about three pages on it already.:sssh:

As far as I know, Caracter was sent home to get his head on straight. He didn't get a $500 hand shake or get kicked off the team. So I don't see how we can compare him to the situations you bring up.

 

The bottom line is that Carracter worked his butt of to get in shape, but still hasn't learned the first thing about being coachable. There's nothing rotten in Denmark. He's an incredible talent that played for a thousand different high schools and doesn't know how to deal with adversity. I think he'll be back, and I know the Louisville fans will welcome him with open arms when he does.

Caracter has been protected his entire life. I agree with Rick that it needs to stop.

But do you air it out in public like that?

That is seemingly what you do after you have parted ways.

 

The kid was very questionable from the get go. Pitino has had this little dances with other recruits as Bozich has mentioned in the C-J.

 

To invest time and then air it out like this in the press?

 

If anyone can get through to a kid like Caracter with some "Jedi-Mind" tricks it is Pitino. He is a very good coach in tapping into player's and getting the most out of them.

I agree, and that's why I'm willing to let Pitino play this out the way he sees fit. If he thinks a shock like this is what Caracter needs, I trust him.

The kid did drop some serious weight. So there is some desire on his behalf.

 

I have witnessed practices of Pitino where he blew up on Roderick Rhodes.

One of Rhodes's problems was that his brother moved into town and wasconstantly in his ear.

Pitino once told RR that he would gift-wrap him and send him home for Christmas. Obviously, there was some flavored language to it...
