No one here is trolling for a fight. You were the one that responded to a post commenting on bringing up a certain situation. I only posted what the paper reported since it appeared no one from the Louisville fan base had the guts to do so. However they or you had no problem posting on the UK players that was suspended. I see no difference in what I posted compared to what you posted. Again, if you read my original post and the one that followed you will see I stated that I hope Caracter has his problems worked out, so I really do not understand your point of pointing out what I posted and ignore many others that posted the same thing. Sure sounds like a fishing trip to me!!!!

02Ram54, You need to read post # 1 and post # 7. After doing so please explain to me what situations I brought up. Every time someone brings up something that is a negative for another program you jump all over it. when it is your beloved Cardinals you want everyone to bow down and believe everythig is all roses. I simply posted on Caracter being sent home just as you have done many times on UK athletes that have made mistakes. The only difference this time is it involves one of your homies and someone made it public reading. I hope all of your Louisville fans welcome him back as you say; "with open arms" because in most of your post on other athletes that make mistakes a 2nd chance is not in the Cards (pun intended).

I think you need to reread every post I've made in this thread (including the one you quoted) I think I've been pretty critical of Caracter.

 

As to your point, that's exactly what I mean. Caracter wasn't kicked off the team, arrested, or anything like that. He was sent home to get some perspective and think about how to be a more mature adult. And now he's back.

 

In closing, I think if you look on this site, I've been accused of being too kind to players looking for a second chance or redemption. For example, my stance on Barry Bonds is that what he was doing was legal in MLB in the steroid era, and that MANY other players were doing the same thing. You're basing your opinion of my views on one case, where I never argued the player didn't deserve a second chance, just that he had made a mistake and it doesn't go away. A second chance is not a clean slate.

I also believe a second chance deserves a clean slate. If the said individual makes amends for his mistake works his tail off to do the right things and does so he certainly deserves a clean slate. How many second chances were you given as a kid? I was given second chances by my parents and coaches as I am sure you were also. Does your hard work at doing the right thing not make you worthy of a clean slate or should everyone hold it over your head and shove it down your throat everytime you get out of line. I hope that you would agree that 2nd chances should be given and yes they do deserve a clean slate.

No, they don't. Attonement and penitence do not erase what happened in any situation. Forgivness is not a time machine. JMO. I'll welcome Caracter back for his second chance, but that doesn't mean that when we look back on his career as a Cardinal that this time spent away from the team will disappear. If he does great things and lives up to his potential, it will only be a small footnote because the offense (being a headstrong freshman) is common and easily forgiven. But it's still part of him forever.

I am very much in disagreement about the clean slate. I just hope that if you are never in a spot where you need a clean slate and no one is willing to give it to you. If that ever happened I think you would feel different but you are entitled to your opinion. Being different is what makes the world go round.That I think we agree on!!

The comment that you found necessary to highlight was in regards to him not taking his troubles any further than they now exist, nothing more; and I was implying nothing!!!! I never once said anything about him being in trouble with the law. I only made reference in that he stays away from trouble. Again, you have read into something that is not there. I know nothing nothing of his past except the NCAA suspension and the home for the holiday incident. I find it odd that you mention accepting a loan for a plane ticket is not major league but a young kid accepting 500 dollars from a dirty booster is a bad to the bone. That is the type of double standard that I have been referring to. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander no matter what it says across the front of the gooses jersey. Like I said many times before.... I hope Caracter is back on campus and does well.

According to the facts of the case submitted by Louisville, Caracter was loaned $2,164.49 for various travel-related expenses for two basketball camps and an unofficial visit to Louisville as a prospective student-athlete by a family friend. During the student-athlete reinstatement process, the University of Louisville cited that the loans did not take place while the family friend was employed by a sports agent, as well as the fact that the loan had been repaid. In addition, the university notes that the acquaintance knew Caracter prior to his ninth-grade year and had a close relationship with him and his family for several years, including dating his aunt and living in the same house with him for a period of time.

 

"In assessing Mr. Caracter’s responsibility for this violation, the staff determined that he had some culpability, however, based on the dating relationship the individual had with his aunt and the fact that the benefits were provided after his employment with the sports agent had ended, only a minimal withholding was warranted,” said Jennifer Strawley, NCAA director of membership services and student-athlete reinstatement. "Reinstatement is a delicate balance of addressing the benefit or competitive advantage gained with student-athlete well being. In this instance, requiring repayment – which Caracter had already fulfilled – as well as requiring him to sit out 10 percent of the season adequately addresses Mr. Caracter’s responsibility for the violation while considering the specific factors of the case.”
