Jeff Garcia and Tim Couch

Wow I guess the pressure of buying presents has made some people anal! All I was saying is that personally I feel like Tim Couch is a lot like Garcia. Stick him in the right system and he thrives. Couch in the Mumme/Leach/Franklin etc system was as good as they come. Garcia stuck in bad offenses played awful but each time he is in the West Coast system he thrives. That was all I was saying.

The main point is that he isn't in the league right now. I understand that warrants some attention and maybe a little chiding because he was a #1 draft pick.

But failing to acknowledge his injuries as a reason, perhaps the #1 reason, he isn't in the NFL is shorting Couch quite a bit.

What Garcia is doing now with the Eagles gives that quite a bit of merit, imo.

The fact that Couch has never played on another team doesn't bode well for him, but like stick1 said, Garcia goes from Pro Bowler in San Fran to bottom dweller in Cleveland & back to the top of the world with Philadelphia. Saying that the Browns organization had nothing to do with Couch or Garcia's play while they were there is much too harsh.

Couch was the man in high school, the man in college but not so good in the pros. You can blame it on him, his line or his coaches but he did not have a good NFL career (3-4 seasons for him). He is one of the best athletes in high school sports history. He is rich & has a good looking wife with a kid or 2. He could probably care less if he played again or not so why do we.

You guys missed the whole point of this thread. My point was that some guys are system QB guys end of story. Garcia is once again showing that. I'm not even getting into all the things Couch was up against. That is old news and very valid. My point was that some guys are just system guys and it would have been interesting to see what he would have done in more of a West Coast system. You guys saying Leach's system dosen't work in the Pros don't realize that his system is pretty much West Coast offense concepts only out of the gun with wide splits.

Garcia was great in San Fran, awful in Det and Cleve now 9TD's 1Int in Philly. San Fran and Philly run the West Coast system.

Out of the gun with wide splits IS what doesn't work in the NFL...

I'm definatly not saying it would but it has never been tried so I don't see how anybody can say his system doesn't work? Personally I don't think it would but I don't see how anybody can say it doesn't work when it hasn't been tried?
