DevilMayCare Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 It's great to hear the kids are putting in the work. The district should be much more competitive after a couple of years of West Carter ruling with an iron fist. The Comets should come back to the pack, but they'll still be a handful. Martin County and Shelby Valley should also contend for the district title. It'll be a fun series of games to follow between those three. 1 1

Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 George Rogers Clark is playing at Martin County this week. This was originally scheduled as Martin County's bye week.

This was originally scheduled as Martin County's bye week. I'm scratching my head here.... 1) Greenup County had to cancel with Fleming County on Aug 20 due to COVID protocol at Greenup. However, Fleming County was able to schedule McCreary Central for Aug 20, thus nullifying the original game with Greenup County and wiping away the forfeit loss for Greenup. Presumably, Greenup would want to use Aug 20 as their bye week since it does not count as a loss against them. 2) Martin County had to cancel with Greenup County on Aug 27 due to COVID protocol at Martin. Greenup County was unable to come up with a substitute opponent for the week, and thereby is awarded a 1-0 forfeit win against Martin County. That means Martin County officially has a take a 1-0 forfeit loss, which also presumably counts as one of the 10 games on their schedule. 3) Martin County, who played Betsy Layne on Aug 20, had a forfeit loss to Greenup County on Aug 27, played Fleming County on Sep 3, and played Knott County Central on Sep 10 currently has 4 of games in the books. Their bye week was scheduled for Sep 17, and they had games scheduled for each of the 6 regular season weeks following their bye week. That makes 10 games. 4) Now Martin County has added in George Rogers Clark for Sep 17, their original bye week. Does that mean Martin County has 11 games this season (including their 1-0 forfeit loss to Greenup County)? The only non-district game Martin County has left after their bye week is East Carter on Oct 29. Have they dumped East Carter from their schedule to make room for George Rogers Clark?

Question answered. COVID forfeits do not count against the 10 total games allowed to be played. Even if a team takes a forfeit loss due to COVID, they still are allowed to play 10 "on field" games if they can make it happen. In other words, we may see teams with 11-game regular season records for 2021. That's a heck of a way to try to mend a RPI that gets wonked by a COVID forfeit loss.@gchs_uk9 1

This seems like what @ChiefSmoke mentioned when he said Tackett and the KHSAA were willingly to work with the coaches association on scheduling. I think it’s the right move. It will be interesting to see how it effects RPI later, although RPI only affects eight teams per class - I’m sure they could modify so everyone is calculated only ten games if necessary. 2

Greenup Scheduled 3 games in one day after we had to cancel on them and they all feel through hours after, I'm just glad we are able to give our a kid to play actual games on the field and the KHSAA is being flexible with the scheduling to let that happen.
farawaycomet2 Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Martin wasn't worried about their RPI last season when they refused to play West Carter.
