Maybe it is simply not as easy as some on here and other boards like to make it believe.

 

I have a family member who truly believes that all KY should have to do is mention they want the player to come to UK and they will trip over themselves to sign on the dotted line. Same with Pitino. Just because Pitino is recruiting them doesn't mean they are automatically coming.

 

Also, I will repeat it....maybe it is not as easy to be competitive year in and year out as fans want to believe.

Agreed and it constantly amazes me, how quickly people turn on coaches, if they have some losses or problems.

 

Could it be perhaps other teams are getting better also, combined with sometimes players just aren't playing well, grasping the concept. Pitino can coach, has an up tempo style most of the time and that will lead to points, but if offensively you struggle, from shooting, ball handling and simple things, the up tempo style will lead to losses.

 

The sky isn't falling in Louisville or Lexington, even though some want it to be.

He has already lost more games at UL than he did the entire time at UK...and we were on Probation:thumb:

Yeah, but he's the one that recruited those players to UL. And he certainly didn't begin with less talent at UL than at UK.

You're exactly right...But even I, as the die hard UL fan that I am, will tell you...One, maybe two, of the players he has recruited have been on the level of McCarty, Walker, Mills, Anderson.....You get the picture...Those guys were studs, and all could have been the head man on any team. You just don't come across that many good athletes like that very often, and he had them back then. That's not a knock on Pitino, that's just the simple fact that those kind of guys are hard to find.

McCarty was considered to frail to be a big time player and Walker an attitude problem that scared off recruiters, neither one were supposed to be as good as Palacios or Caracter. Anderson was a transfer who was not nearly as big a name as Padgett, David that is. It seems as though something, either his ability to recruit or develp talent seems to have wavered a bit.

I hear what is being said about RB loosing his touch etc.... I think that (as we all age) we loose the energy to maintain a high level of activity and the energy needed to coach "Rick Pitino" style ball... Example - Im not sure he ever sat at a UK game as coach. Always up and down the sidelines coaching with intensity.... He even gave that intensity at the timeouts => standing up...... NOW - he coaches with some intensity on the sidelines, sits on a chair during timeouts etc. IM NOT BEING CRITICAL OF RP, THESE ARE JUST OBSERVATIONS. It takes tremendous energy to coach his style of play. Im not sure he has the drive and energy to do what he did at UK at U of L. Would love to see another banner in Freedom Hall. We are certainly missing something......

Mercer and Mashburn were beasts. Beyond them, Rick has brought in just as good of kids at UL, imo. At least in regards to their standings entering college.

Question... why did McCarty not play in the 1992-1993 season? Was he a Juco transfer? I know he is from Evansville, did he stay up their for a year, or was it just academics...

That was when you were still allowed to take 1 Prop 48 player per year. He had the grades in high school, just not the SAT score. I was at UK during that time and he was in line behind me at Hardee's by Wildcat Lodge about 2am. It was August during the year he had to sit out and none of us knew who his was yet so we were all saying that Pitino should be talking to him!
