Beechwood 52 Breathitt County 7

Final!!! Game started fast and furious with both teams scoring on their opening plays of their first drives. Beechwood then scored again to make it 14-7. On Breathitt County’s second drive they drove to the Beechwood 2 yard line but was stopped on 4th and goal. Beechwood then drove 98 yards for a TD to go up 21-7 and that was the turning point. Breathitt never really had a long sustained drive after that. The lead grew to 49-7 by halftime and the ended with a 52-7 Final.

Cam Hergott was the show tonight. He accounted for 6 TD’s (3 throwing and 3 running), he was just to much for the Bobcats defense to contain.

Beechwood moves on and will travel to Olive Hill next week to face the West Carter Comets in the State Semifinals.

Thanks for the summary @BWTigers!

Hergott was a highlight reel in this one. Three long TD runs and each was a zig zag make them all miss a tackle show. The first play of the game looked like a sack and 10 yard loss, then Hergott spins out of a couple tackles, scrambles around end and finds Brady Moore about 20 yards downfield along the sideline. Moore jukes around two tacklers, splits a couple more and outruns another to complete a 63 yard TD. That play should be on ESPN top ten tonight. Hergott had to be over 200 yards rushing and maybe 200 yards passing also.

This is exactly the game Cam Hergott needed to push himself to the forefront of Mr. Football discussions. 3 TD passes to three different receivers, 3 rushing touchdowns totalling over 140+ yards on the three carries.

He has 12 rushing touchdowns, close to 900 rushing yards, 21 TD passes against only 4 picks, and is on a warpath to set the state record for completion percentage in a season set by Nick Bohn (2017 - Trinity). Also went over 2000 rushing for his career tonight and by the time he's done, will be over 6000 passing yards.

Tentative Numbers:

  • Cameron Hergott
    • 10 Carries For 240 Yards 3 TD's
    • 6 for 6 For 120 Yards 3 TD's

Thanks. I was a little high on the passing yards and a little low on the rushing yards. Sixteen passes/rushes and six resulted in scores.

Also, Breathitt County is not a bad football team. I was impressed by several of their players. I think they are a borderline top ten team in 2A - somewhere between 8-12 in 2A.

That was probably his fourth best play tonight. The other two TD runs were better and the scramble throw on the first play of the game was better.

If Beechwood wins the 2A title Hergott almost has to be Mr. Football.
