Based on current RPI here is next weeks 5A Quarterfinals pairings.

Owensboro vs Fairdale

Cov. Cath. vs Madison Southern

Southwestern vs Frederick Dpuglass

Bowling Green vs North Bullitt

 

My question is this: Based on current RPI shouldn't Owensboro play Madison Southern and Cov. Cath. play Fairdale?

 

The top 8 RPI's remaining are in this order:

1) Owensboro

2) Cov. Cath.

3) Southwestern

4) Bowling Green

5) North Bullitt

6) Frederick Douglass

7) Fairdale

8  Madison Southern

 

It’s districts 1-4 on 1 side and 5-8 on the other that’s why.

Owensboro

Bowling Green

North Bullitt

Fairdale

Correct.  So, for example, if Owensboro, BG, FD and CCH all win next week, O would host FD (1 RPI v 9 RPI) and CCH would host BG (3 RPI v 5 RPI).  Just an example, not predictions. 

Geography no longer matters in semis.  And, RPI for seeding purposes, was frozen after the regular season.

Obviously, FD’s RPI is a product of COVID.  They are far better than their RPI.

For clarification purposes, that is not a rule just for this season. That is how they did it last year too. Playoff games are not included in RPI. Only regular season games are used to calculate RPI. Once regular season is over, your RPI stays the same throughout the playoffs.

Two of the quarterfinals games are decided by COVID. Man, that's a huge shame...Fairdale's only loss of the season is a loss to COVID.

Which is more than fair since some schools would take a big and unavoidable RPI hit playing district opponents in the first and second round.
