oldrambler
The very fans that talk about how great it would be to get one of the 'ole Kentucky guys would be starting a new thread the day after the guy loses two games in a row or fail to win a National Championship his first year titled "FIRE THE COACH"! Tubby will be okay and his young team will only get better. I agree with all of your post but especially the part that I quoted here. You have hit the nail on the head.:thumb: :thumb:

NobizLikeShowbiz
:thumb: Put me in that same category, I am not impressed with him at all as a head coach. Just wondering, why are you not impressed with him? I know he is young and still very unproven but why are you not impressed?
fieldhousekrayzie21
Ford is a good coach, just like Pelphry (spelling sorry). But they are not ready to be head coach at UK. On the other hand I would LOVE to have one of them come in & be the head recruiter for us & kick Hanson and Rigot out.

This also has to do with character issues I continue to hear about.
HOPKINSVILLE TIGER
I agree with everything you said except that Joe B won the Nat title in 78! I understand, my point was that he didn't do anything that Tubby didn't do in his first year! Tubby also won a National Championship but now it's fire Tubby or he did it with Pitino's players. All this to discredit the guy who actually has a pretty decent winning percentage.

Sorry. What is Coach Smith's winning percentage, just out of curiosity?.... As for not good enough, implying to the fans, administration, recruits?.... ladiesbballcoach
It used to be that the easiest way to the Final 4 and National Championship to coach at a traditional power with all of the resources. That is not true anymore. And when expectations become unrealistic (Alabama football) the position becomes less attractive than it once was. Especially since you can accomplish the same things at the school you presently coach.
pnthr4life
His winning % really doesn't matter to alot of people throughout the Bluegrass. He could have a winning % of 85-90 and if he doesn't win a National Championship again soon, he's a bum!! BTW, I don't happen to feel that way. AverageJoesGym
What is Coach Smith's winning percentage, just out of curiosity?.... As for not good enough, implying to the fans, administration, recruits?.... Here's all the coaches records since Rupp retired. Joe Hall.........297-100 .748 Eddie Sutton..88-39 .693 Rick Pitino.....219-50 .814 Tubby Smith..241-71 .772 So basically over 100 games Pitino would win 4 more than Tubby. 100 games would be pretty much 3 seasons so Pitino would win 1.33 games more per season than Tubby with their winning percentages. I fail to see that big of a difference.

If you look at our national title it isn't like we've managed to win one every few years or anything. 3 of the 7 were won in a 4 year span from 48 until 51. You could go further and point out that Rupp won his 4th one in 58 so that was 4 titles in 11 seasons. Take away that flurry and UK has 3 titles in 49 years. There are now over 300 schools playing division 1 basketball, great players don't stay in college very long and when they do its rare that they'll go to a school that already has another highly recruited player at their position which further spreads out the good players. Since Kentucky won its last title in 1998 the only team with multiple titles is UConn. It is simply a different game now. When George Mason makes a Final Four run it should show everyone that once you get to tourney that everything is a crap shoot, particularly after the first round. HOPKINSVILLE TIGER
I agree that Tubby is a good coach. But a decent winning % isn't good enough at UK. Sorry. So what does his winning percentage have to be to be good enough for you, somewhere close to 100%? And when should we hang the National Championship banner in the rafters of Rupp Arena, at least every other year? Just look at all the schools in the nation and tell me the ones that have a drastically better winning percentage that UK since Tubby has been head coach! When I say a decent winning percentage I was being modest because we have a respectful winning percentage with Tubby!
