At first glance, Calloway County's 14-7 win over Hopkinsville in Week 3 was one of the state's biggest early season head scratchers. The Lakers entered the season losers of 27 of their previous 31 games, including a 1-10 mark a year ago, while the Tigers sat at #5 in BGP's 4A rankings entering the game. Upon further inspection, Hopkinsville walloped Calloway 43-0 in the regular season last year, before barely escaping a first round playoff rematch, giving the impression that maybe an upset had been in the works for about ten months. Perhaps that result was right on schedule.

What makes this game even harder to get a read on, is how the teams have performed since that September 25th contest. The scores against common opponents don't really help sort anything out. They both beat Madisonville-North Hopkins, but the Tigers blew them out, while the Lakers beat the Maroons by a modest ten points. And both lost to Logan County, with Hoptown getting run over by the Cougars and Calloway taking Logan to the wire.

Reece Jesse gives the Tigers the game's biggest weapon, but Calloway County is a team he has yet to go off against. A big night from him would go a long way toward tipping the outcome in Hopkinsville's favor.

I believe Calloway’s season is over

The KHSAA scoreboard is still showing the game...so who knows at this point.

How are they handling the tickets? Can you buy at the gate or on line

I think Hoptown is a sleeper team that could surprise a few teams and make a decent run if they can stay away from Covid.

It all comes down to how much you trust Hopkinsville. Every time I feel good about the Tigers they lose a game no one expects and my belief plummets. They could make the state semifinals or they could lose this Friday night. Nothing would surprise me.

I get that and is a fair assessment. I am going to lean to the state semi-final side of the pendulum.
