Will “Red County” restrictions disappear for the playoffs?

Featured Replies

We see games getting cancelled left and right but I believe this will be ignored for the playoffs. It will suddenly be safer when it means more. Even the Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent said a week ago that they will be allowed to play playoffs but will be reviewed again so will have to wait and see. Do you think school districts that are cancelling now will throw out the Covid map just in time for the playoffs?

I think you are correct. I also believe that if the KHSAA don't step in it will probably still be up to local districts to still decide if they play or not. I am curious if it is a seed 4 vs a very good seed 1 if the seed 4 team will just use the red distinction not to play. It will be interesting to see.

One interesting point further into the playoffs say using RPI a team is supposed to travel to the higher RPI team but their county is in the red and the lower RPI team is not would they ask the KHSAA to move the game to their county based on that. Just wondering out loud.

I’ll be interested if Marshall County will drive hours to get pummeled by Trinity. They will be able to avoid that using red county designation.

That's what I was saying I think they may be several of those.

I'm no expert on this but didn't they just have or having volleyball and soccer state tournaments. How'd they handle it for them. I thought I remember reading on twitter that if a team decided not to play a red county in those tournaments they would have to forfeit? Maybe someone on here can shed some light. I would think those tournaments might give us an indication on how football would go.

I hope so if not there may not be very many games. We’re in the red in Barren Co and just about all of the cases is from one nursing home how could that effect the football team in my opinion it doesn’t at all.

Elliott Co. due to over 200 cases at the state prison there there number was over 500 and in the red. The last count I saw they had 213 total cases and 210 was in the prison.

In some counties, I think it makes common sense to realize that the cases taking the county to "red" status really are confined to places like prisons and nursing homes.    The risk in those counties would seem minimal.

But I strongly suspect that there will be blatant hypocrisy in many places, where the "red" designation is clearly the result of elevated cases within the general population, but where it will suddenly be "safe enough" to play ball, so long as it's playoff ball.

Sad.   I truly love watching HS Football, but if it's not safe enough to play on 11/6 - and the numbers are relatively unchanged on 11/13 - then it's still not safe enough to play.   It's like what we demand of the referees - please be consistent.

Looks like that is the Plan for Carter County, East and West.

What a difference a week makes. Lol.

Hoping for the best for all.  Hoping that means we can play ball.   Be safe, everyone.

Not sure if nearly all teams make the playoffs like normal years, but Scott High School just cancelled the rest of their season.
