Trinity 13 St. Xavier 10 (OT) (JV)

Featured Replies

Trinity battled back from 10-0 deficit to win in OT 13-10. Both teams played hard and was exciting finish for a JV game.

That’s really all you can ask for in JV games; tough, close game where the players gain playing experience.

Was a wild finish in regulation. Was 2 seconds left and was 4th down and looked like time ran out as kicker was running out and refs called a substitution penalty on Trinity and added 1 second to clock. HS doesn’t have time runoff rule like NFL.

If what you said is correct (and I have no reason to doubt you) that is an incorrect call. Just because a player is running out on the field, that is not an illegal substitution penalty. A substitute has the opportunity to come onto the field and replace a player. Just coming on the field does not constitute illegal substitution if the ball is dead. If the ball is live, then it can be illegal substitution or if the substitute actually played before getting set, then it would be illegal participation.

Watching the game now, both team’s DL are standing out early.

Tigers had their chances to close out the game late in the 4th quarter just couldn't put it away. The personal foul was huge on St.X's last drive of the 4th quarter.

Good job, Rocks.   I have a soft spot in my heart for these low-scoring games.

This is not a commentary, but what was the makeup of the two teams? I woulf prefer all Sophs and Frosh, but those days are long gone.

St.X played Juniors and Sophomores. None of them start varsity. I would say Trinity the same.
