I was there too. I believe it was against Auburn. Really sad. I believe they would have won the championship wit Anderson that year.

 

It was against Canicious... Im not sure if thats how u spell it though. I wasnt there but I remember watching it like it was yesterday.

I think it happened on a baseline move where he went in for a dunk over several people, if I'm not mistaken. He left the game and then actually came back in and played after the injury. I think it was against Auburn or maybe Georgia.

 

You could be right...But I remember I was watching that game as well, and I remember it happening at around half court. He jumped up high to catch the pass, and came down on his leg wrong while trying to stay in bounds after he had to jump up to catch the pass. I remember he completely collapsed to the floor on that play holding his knee...

 

Either way though that is one thing I have always been mad at Pitino about. Anderson was cleared to play during the NCAA tournament, and he was even practicing with the team. So I dont understand why he didn't play him. I could understand not starting him because it could mess up the chemistry, but if he was good enough to run and scrimmage in practice all the time. He could have been good enough to come in off the bench for us to give us some energy. I know we really could have used him against Zona in the finals because once we got to overtime the players were dead tired...

That 1996 team is definately top 10 ever. There were 8+ nba players on that team. not many college teams can say that.

Thanks I forgot to say it three times... The kid got hurt, it caused UK a National Championship, there are no If's about it.

If I think back, the 97 championship was almost a miracle. Cameron Mills of all people almost stepped in and carried us to the title. I think we might have lost Derek Anderson that season.

 

Tubby would have led us to the Sweet Sixteen that year.

 

 

That 97 team had alot of great players on that team still. It had Wayne Turner, Epps, Mercer, etc. That team going to the finals was not a miracle, that team was the best team in the country with Anderson, and was almost the best even without him...I not going to comment on how Tubby would have done with them, because its the same with the 98 team because we dont know how the team would have done with another coach...

I think the reason they got beat was not because Anderson got hurt,but because Tubby Tubby Tubby wasn't coaching them in the overtime!

In my opinion (remember we all have one!) Pitino Blew it!!! The only thing on pitinos mind was $$$Boston Celtics$$$!!!
