Apparently I paid to watch the officials in this game tonight. WOOF!

I have total respect for officials/refs. It’s not as easy as it looks. Especially a game like this. And I have seen some bad officials over the years. But this was on a different level and I did not have a dog in the fight.

The officials didn't beat us, I don't think. We were outplayed in the first half and didn't shoot the ball well until the second half, digging ourselves a 13 point hole by halftime. We ended up shooting 37 free-throws on the night.

What they were were incredibly inconsistent, or consistent in their inconsistency, to the point where the players didn't know by what rules they were playing. One who is a good guy off the court but has been a bad official for a long time, especially stood out as clueless.

Five players fouled out - three for Brossart and two for NCC.

This shouldn't have happened. They were victimized by the multiple-choice officiating. Oh, and then there was the ever-popular blarge.

The officiating was a disservice to the kids who work hard and play hard, the coaches who do a job to put their players in a position to compete, and the fans who paid money to watch this debacle, and left everyone leaving with a bad taste for what they just witnessed. Neither staff was happy with the way this one was called.

A simple matter of calling what was happening that needed to be called would have been appreciated by both camps. Certainly a higher profile crew could have been assigned to what is well known as a high-intensity rivalry game. Too bad the officials had to have such a large part of what could have been a great game between two good basketball teams!!!

NCC gave up double digit lead to trail by two late in game. Mullikin's basket at end of regulation ties game at 69 and sends to OT. NCC pulls out the win in OT outscoring Mustangs 7-4 in OT. There were big plays made by both teams. Mullikin leads NCC with 20 points. Howard 15 points had big loose ball recovery and basket in OT. Mueller 13 points had hugh stick back and one on missed FT by NCC in OT.

Mustangs were lead by Ethan Eilerman with 25 points. Govan and Schirmer contributed 16 points each. Brossart shot 32 of 39 from line.

I am sure there will be plenty of discussion about officials. 40 fouls and 1 bench technical in 2nd half alone. Both teams had players foul out and other with 4 fouls on them. Not what you want to watch but the boys on both teams played hard was an exciting game from a fans point of view.

While the outcome wasn’t what we were looking for, I’m still never more proud to be a Brossart Mustang. Our guys fought through injures, abysmal officiating, and unfortunate luck. Everyone gave it there all out there but most of all I want to give a shoutout to the guys coming off the bench. More specifically Alec Eilerman. Loved the way he battled all the way to end, and wasn’t afraid to pull from 3 when his team needed it.

With Campbell showing us the 10th is wide open last night, I don’t expect my Brossart Mustangs to lose again until they play in a somewhat famous 20,000 seat arena in Lexington.

Officials commentary - the sequel.

Because of the officiating, who knows who would have won this game were it allowed to be played in a legitimate manner. But at least then, it would have been properly defined, and the fans who payed money to see it, the players who competed, and the coaches who had their abilities to orchestrate how their teams played taken away from them, would have left with some closure as to a legitimate winner and loser.

Yes, 32 minutes were played plus overtime, but the officials removed all manner of allowing two good teams to compete in a competitive manner at some semblance of full-strength turning the game into a travesty, rendering the final score, regardless of who would have won it - inconsequential.

A NewCath fan tweeted to me that this crew should be doing 3rd and 4th grade girls. The only problem with that would be that it would be terribly unfair to those 3rd and 4th grade girls.

I could not agree more. This could have been one of the best high school games I have seen based on the effort of the players and coaches. Instead I left feeling like I had just watched a preseason scrimmage. Making a call on a play under the basket while you are standing on the arc (and your partner is standing feet away from the play and makes no call); the always popular double foul cop out; horribly inconsistent charge/blocking calls. I rarely complain about officiating because I've done it and know how difficult it can be, but this was brutal. The scoreboard reflects that NCC was victorious so lets leave it with my favorite saying... on this night the Breds were better.

There is no accountability for 9th Region officials. Those same refs will work a Varsity game tonight or Monday.

Nothing is taking away that NCC won the game. I think the final score proves that. In fact, the fouls allowed Brossart to get back in the game. First half NCC was up double digits when only 13 fouls were called.

Watching the 41 fouls called in second half was not what most people came to watch. Rather watch boys play basketball than officials stopping action and reporting fouls.

With that said, both teams played hard with the players they had left. NCC made some big plays during OT that gave them the win.

Good luck to both teams come district and regional time.

If your gonna dream, dream big, gotta get out of districts 1st. Pretty confident coming from a team who hasn’t played Bourbon or GRC.
