Coach K Goes Off On Cameron Crazies

Featured Replies

I was not watching it live, but twitter blew up last night as Coach K decided to brow beat the Cameron Crazies for chanting "Jeff Capel, sit with us." From what I took, the chant was meant in a joking matter which they do towards former Duke players/coaches, as in "don't be on that bench, come sit with us."

Coach K did somewhat apologize following the game, but also defended his blow up he just apologized for:

"I thought it was something personal," Krzyzewski told reporters after the game. "I apologize to the students for that. I don't apologize for the timing. You shouldn't say that in the middle of the first half of an ACC game. This isn't some cutesy little thing where we can just bounce a ball around and giggle. We've got to fight. We've got to have people that are adamant about it. Once I heard his name, again I'm not going to go say, 'will you please tell me exactly what you're doing.' So it's a mistake on my part. I'd rather make the mistake in protection of my guy. Then I went at the end of the half and said, 'look, he's our guy.' So I apologize. But let's think of a different cheer…You leave the other guy alone."

The incident made me think back to his tongue lashing of the Oregon player from a few years ago, where it was almost awkwardly uncomfortable to watch the video of it. The whole thing was bizarre.

Mike Krzyzewski yells at Duke student section, but apologizes and says he didn't know what they were chanting - CBSSports.com

Not his best look. Also, in post game, struck me as that miserable ego driven person who absolutely will not apologize even while admitting they were in the wrong.

I'm sure that's the worst thing that has ever been chanted at a Duke game. :lol2: Come on K.

If you finish his quote he talked about having a rough few days with the Kobe situation, etc. They were pretty close from what I can tell from here. I also get he misunderstood the chant and I can pretty much come up with what he perhaps might have heard. With all that he was defending one of his own. Coach K kind of strikes me as a dude who will do more behind the scenes than with his public apology.

Capel knows a lot.

Are you saying that K is kind of trying to buy his silence?
