I thought Paintsville might be able to move the ball better on Pikeville than they did. ATLCat called it well on Pikeville - they had another gear they went to in the big games. The key to this season was the development of McNamee at QB. He got better as the season went on and Pikeville moved up with his improvement.

 

Way back in the 1A preseason preview we stated this:

 

The King is dead. Long live the King. Well, kind of. ... Is there a team that is going to follow Mayfield and Beechwood’s path and become the new King of 1A? There is a team that jumps off the page as the heir apparent – the Pikeville Panthers. Long Live the King?

 

Year one of the new alignment appears to have brought us the new King of 1A.

They seemingly flipped a switch down the stretch of this season and ran away with it.

 

You just got me thinking about a Pikeville vs. Somerset match-up. I can't imagine how that wouldn't be a great game.
