What’s your thoughts? According to the new RPI rankings system we do. If not who are the 4 best teams and why?

For reference, this week's 1A semifinal games are:

Paintsville at Kentucky Country Day

Louisville Holy Cross at Pikeville

In my opinion it comes out about right. The only team I didn't see making it this far was Holy Cross. With that being said they have taken care of business and earned their spot. I believe Raceland could be this far had the format not changed. I also believe everyone is playing for runner-up against Pikeville. I cant say the same for the other classes though. To me its a shame some teams from 2A and 3A are sitting at home.

The final Bluegrasspreps rankings had:

1. Pikeville

3. Paintsville

5. Kentucky Country Day

8. Louisville Holy Cross

The current Calpreps rankings show:

1. Pikeville

2. Paintsville

3. Kentucky Country Day

4. Louisville Holy Cross

Obviously the Calpreps rankings continued to reward teams for winning so them being 1-4 as they are makes sense. As for the BGP rankings, I think Newport Catholic was probably overvalued a bit but kept moving up because others were losing. The win over Beechwood was good, but even right now the jury is still out on what to make of this Beechwood team. Raceland, Hazard, and Williamsburg all had their moments but very also flawed in many ways. It was certainly a solid class, 1-8, and it is hard to argue that the four remaining schools aren't at least very worthy of their place in the bracket.

I feel Pikeville, Paintsville, and Holy Cross are correct simply due to their overall body of work and what they have done in the playoffs. KCD is the unknown. They are 13-0 but I think most agree they are playing their toughest opponent to date this Friday.

I'm not sold on an RPI that ranked KCD higher than Trinity and Male throughout the season.

However, the mathups appear right. But can you imagine the atmosphere if Holy Cross was driving two miles down the road to play KCD and Paintsville was playing at Pikeville this weekend? Those would be two huge gates that would benefit each school.

Paintsville might have a running clock put on them By KCD for all I know. However, I’m happy to travel to Louisville instead of going to Pikeville!

Did we get the best? I think that is the mistake we are making here in KY. When you look at the NCAA tournament the best teams are not always in the final 4. Think about how many of us root for the underdogs to pull off the upset. This is perfect example of what is wrong with the new RPI.

Think back to the magical run Bourbon County made. Bourbon wasn’t the best team going into the playoffs. Came down to field conditions, lady luck, and a group of kids playing their hearts out.

So, I don’t care if we have the best teams in the final 4. I want every team to believe they have a shot on any given night. I think this RPI is designed to out Cinderella runs. I like the old playoff format because you have a chance to prep all year for those teams that stand in your way.

Have you noticed no one seeds the Sweet 16! Time for the KHSAA to stop tweaking things.

Why do you think the jury is still out on Beechwood? They're in the semis. NCC very well could have beaten Holy Cross it was a close game they were not overvalued at all.

If they are not the best, then why are these four teams playing this week? Seems to me that no team can get this far without being the best. That means adopt and overcome. Weather it is getting lucky and winning a game on a pick 6 as time expires or beating a good team on a night they just do not have it. The goal here is to survive and advance. Was Virginia the better team last year in the NCAA tournament when they got beat. Not that night.
