While generally true, there are a few instances where the state will pursue charges even if the victim does not wish to do so. Particularly situations involving children or domestic violence.

 

Imo, KSP should review any and all video of this as well as interview the victim and possible suspect. If they determine it was even remotely criminal they should hand it over to prosecution to review.

 

Of course on children, so much so the state will assign them their own lawyer to lookout for them. Not so much on domestic violence. But to your point, police use to be proactive and in those days anyone committing a crime had to fear the long arm of the law.

I think the consensus here is that it was a terrible action and look. Not one that can be defended. However, on social media, the defense is loud and numerous. Just find fascinating how several people can watch the same video and draw totally different conclusions.

Has that happened? It sounds like he's been moved to the bleachers, unless I missed an update.

To me, the biggest issue with letting him attend any further school functions is that he has taken zero responsibility and shown no remorse for his actions.

As big as the guy was, he should have had no problem grabbing/bear hugging the player. The incident speaks for itself and if the guy was asked to be there or allowed to be there, for whatever purpose, he should not be there from now on. I don't care if he's even an ex KY Mr. Football. I think this is an issue throughout high school football with folks supposedly affiliated with programs and ex players along the sideline and definitely needs to be monitored by schools/coaching staffs more closely. All it takes is for some joker like this to ruin what should be a privilege.

If I follow along in this thread the KHSAA tapped out on this one so that is not going to happen and I guess we have to take Paintsville's word for it that it has been handled.

 

In short, when "we" capture clear video evidence of wrongdoing against a child during a high school sporting event and "we" do nothing about it I hate to think where we are headed as a society.

No one was hurt and this person was one year removed from High School as well. I'm just a big believer in the punishment should fit the crime. If no one was hurt , the result of the action matters in the punishment phase as well. If the kid was seriously injured I'd have a different take. It feels like you want this kid punished no matter who does the punishing and it doesn't feel right.

I do believe the adult "perpetrator" should be punished. A minor punishment but a meaningful one.

Assuming the person on the sideline is over 18 and the player is still a minor that makes a big difference in terms of how it should be handled, even if they are close in age.

 

Also, why does the player need to be seriously injured before any action is taken to prevent something like this from happening in the future? That's never a good solution/line of thinking.
