October 31, 20196 yr Appy State??? This isn't a charity, pick the 4 or 8 best teams and let them go at it. I'd hate to see a 9-3 SEC champ get in over a 11-1 Big 12 runner-up or B1G runner-up. Automatic bids would not incentivize conferences to improve their league, if they are getting a chunk of playoff money each year regardless of how good or bad they are. If you expanded to 8 teams, with no auto bids then the teams capable of winning the title wouldn't be eliminated because they had one bad night in Manhattan Kansas or West Lafayette or lost an early season matchup against another power team.
November 4, 20196 yr That 16 team proposal would take a while to play out and how do you seed, determine sites, TV, etc.
November 4, 20196 yr You do realize this is not like HS football? You don't just call the AD and say "Hey, let's play next week". That doesn't even happen there. Those schedules are set YEARS in advance. UC is a top 25 program and lost by 45 at Ohio State. Same margin as Clemson/Wofford. What's the difference?? Wofford can use the money more than UC.
November 4, 20196 yr It’s going to be: OSU LSU Bama Clemson I actually think that LSU will start off tomorrow night #1, with OSU #2, Bama #3, and Clemson #4. At least that is how I think the committee will rank them in week #1.
November 4, 20196 yr Absolutely no way conference champs from non-power 5 should get an automatic bid. Most of them would finish in the middle to bottom half of the power conferences. Even at 8 teams, I don't think there should be auto bids. FWIW the committee has picked the right teams it seems, every year since they started the playoffs. Not necessarily. I have witnessed, first hand, how when a conference is given a legitimate opportunity to compete for a national championship they get a higher level of recruit. UC and Louisville were consistently in the top 10 when in the Big East. Now that UC has been systematically eliminated from any chance at national championship they can't get the recruits they did in the Big East years and have been relegated to a "middle of the road" program in regards to the P5. The system is biased against them from the word go, now. How do you recruit given that ball and chain?
November 4, 20196 yr I’d completely shocked if it’s not 1) LSU 2) OSU 3) Bama 4) Clemson The intrigue starts at 5-8 and where are Penn State, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Oregon ranked. I expect them to be in that order but I think you could rank those 4 teams in any order. Personally I’d go 5) PSU 6) Oregon 7) Georgia 8) Oklahoma
