The good news for Boone is they have a coach that understands the current situation. Getting numbers up is the main priority. Do that by building enthusiasm in the program. If they can continue to add a few wins at the varsity level each each year, Boone can be competitive again. Will they get back to the point where they were having close games in the large school finals against the likes of Trinity and Shelby County, maybe not. But they can definitely get to a higher level than they've been the previous 10 years.

Boone is kind of the inner city school in Boone County. Older housing older commercial older industrial areas. Got to think it’s lower income compared to Ryle and Cooper and even Conner now (was more agricultural area back in the day?)

 

And kids leave the area to play at the other schools. Hopefully they rebuild something and equalize with the other schools somewhat.

If you can, provide the median incomes for Ludlow, Bellevue, Dayton, Newport, and Covington. I don't know what they are, but feel like the Florence figure is much higher.

 

Boyle County's median income is $49,654, so less than that of Florence. They seem to competing just fine?

Boyle County is a different discussion because of the fact that there is such a smaller number of high schools local to the school. There's Kentucky School for the Deaf, and only other school in the county is Danville Christian, which has something like 15 students per grade and only fields basketball, swimming and cross country teams. I don't know whether or not Boyle Co. or Danville take tuition students, but regardless, I believe the nearest private high school to Boyle County is over 30 miles away from Danville at LCA, and Lex Catholic is another few miles beyond that. Going elsewhere isn't a very feasible option for families in that county and they are in a situation where their school board seems to see the value in really supporting their athletic programs.

I honestly think Boone's downfall was the lack of coaching in the previous years. Parents/players don't want to play for a badly coached team. I also think the talent that they used to get coming up through the Boone Co peewee league they are not getting anymore. More kids are playing for other teams even at the starter level than for Boone Co. I don't agree that their downfall is because of financial reasons of players' parents. At the end of the day it comes down to coaching at all levels from starter all the way to high school. The reason Conner has become a good team is because of the program and coaching they have starting at the starter level.

 

I do think that coach Warner is going to bring them back to at least being competitive, but after watching a couple games this year, their offensive play calling is not very good. They may only have 4 or 5 different play calls a game. The defense can't stop the pass at all. Its hard for me to believe this is all on the kids not being good at football, some has to be lack of coaching. They have some athletes but sometimes those athletes need coached up.

Boone also has a lot of kids who move away from the school due to its poor reputation. Most before they even arrive from middle school.

 

I’d argue RA Jones is worse than Boone. I feel like some of us, who have experienced Boone are speaking a different language to those who haven’t. All of the points in this thread add up to the question at hand, “what’s going on at Boone?” My final opinion, is the overall quality of the school experience is deterring families and yes, the coaching turnover has effected football as well.

It might not be exactly but 2 schools have been added to that district and have taken Boone County’s drawing potential away from certain areas where they had it when they were a big school power. Beechwood is a bad example because Beechwood is an Independent and if they have low class numbers they can take tuition students where public schools can not.

 

The thing that I liked that Kenton County did was they made the district open so any kid that lives in Kenton County can choose which one of the 3 high schools in Kenton County they want to go to. Why can’t Boone do something similar because it may not affect BCHS immediately but what if they hired a coach that people wanted to play for then having the district lines prevents kids in Ryle and Coopers area from having that choice.

 

Let’s look at it success wise. BCHS was a big school power in the 80’s through early 90’s competing with Trinity and St. X on a yearly basis. Since then has any one of the schools been a threat to win a state title? While Cooper and Ryle have been competitive in NKY, the big school division in NKY has been mocked ever since the old BCHS has gone by the way side. Since 1975 BCHS was in 4 championship games and while losing all 4 they were competitive in almost all those games heck 1 game they lost 3-0 to St. X. Since 1994 only 1 Boone County school has been in a title game and that was Ryle and they lost 41-7 to Trinity. The competition level from NKY big school division has never rebounded since BCHS was split.

I’m sorry your right I was only looking at 4A prior to the 6 division classification and then looked at 6A after. I didn’t even realize Cooper was in 5A prior to this year.
