Can Logan County re-group and get back on track?

Featured Replies

Coming into Friday's game with Hopkinsville, the Cougars hadn't had an issue all season long with getting by their opponents. The one game they did have problems with, they still came out on top of Madisonville North-Hopkins 26-24.

The Cougars had outscored their opponents 273-95. The Cougars would look to be continuing that streak plus their undefeated streak on Friday but that wouldn't be the case as Hopkinsville wouldn't have any issue with Logan County as they rolled to a 21-6 win over the Cougars.

Logan County will host Hopkins County Central and Calloway County on October 18th and 25th and will be on the road in the season finale, at South Warren on November 1st.

With the remaining schedule, can the Cougars get back on track or will the Hopkinsville loss be the first of a late season collapse?

Logan County will be fine. They were banged up from what I heard and had to play on the road vs a very good Hoptown team.

They will have no problem with Hopkins Co Central or Calloway.

It's hard to play a cupcake schedule leading into district play. The best two teams beat them up. Hoptown outphysicaled them the last three quarters. Should be a fun rematch with either Madisonville or Hoptown in the playoffs.

I think their schedule is better than this year than in the past. Warren East and Greenwood are good opponents. Russellville, in theory, is a good local opponent but the Panthers just aren't good this year. The game with South Warren at the end of the season might help in the postseason but perhaps they would have been better suited facing them prior to district play.

Well said GC,

With South's QB out, I think South will look to line up and pound Logan County most of the night. That can take it's toll on a already banged up defensive unit.

Logan County didn't exactly run out and schedule the biggest world beaters, but they did upgrade their schedule with three Warren County teams, swapping out Breckinridge County, McLean County, and Todd County Central. Point of fact, if Madisonville can knock off Hopkinsville, Logan County will be in the driver's seat for the top seed in the district. They've currently got 12 points in the tiebreak (Greenwood's 5 wins, Warren East's 4, Muhlenberg County's 2, and Russellville or Butler County's 1). Greenwood will probably add one more win, East has a shot at three, and I expect both Muhlenberg County or Russellville will add at least one somewhere. Hopkinsville has 5 from Caldwell which is obviously extremely valuable, but Kenwood only gives them two currently, and right now, that's it. Madisonville is sitting on 9 (Union County - 4, Daviess County and Marshall County - 2 each, Ballard Memorial - 1). Both Madisonville and Hopkinsville could change the math by winning at the end of the season against Mayfield and Paducah respectively, but as of today, Logan County might be able to avoid that first round carnage if the cards break right.

Just goes to show you that 3 Way tiebreakers need to account for some sort of strength of schedule.

Logan Non District Opponents

Greenwood

Warren East

Muhlenberg

Butler

Russellville

South Warren

Madisonville Non District

Daviess

Ballard Memorial

Mayfield

Union County

Christian County

Marshall county

Hopkinsville Non District

Kenwood

Mayfield

Caldwell

Henderson

Christian County

Paducah

One of those schedules is not like the others. 3 way tiebreaker Credits teams for creative scheduling.

I'm assuming Hopkinsville is the one you're referring to, in which case, I agree. They had a much more difficult schedule ahead of them. They're sitting back in points mostly because they lost to Mayfield and Henderson County - if they'd held on against Mayfield, this contest would basically be over.

It's just a matter of time before the KHSAA decides to use RPI to do this. I all but guarantee it.

I would think you are right in regards to RPI becoming a multi-team tiebreaker in the future.
