That's one way of answering the question. I went the head-to-head route.

Head to head, I think with UK's size difference in the paint, more specifically Morris they would have an advantage.

 

Jasper, Meeks and Bradley would cause match-up problems on the defensive end and Crawford would be a draw, with WKU's ability to shoot from beyond the perimeter.

 

WKU's style of play, is more up tempo and based off ball-reversal, along with dribble penetration, than kick-outs.

 

I think a more accurate idea of how good WKU is, will be upcoming. Here is some upcoming games...

 

Sat. - Dec 16 at Tennessee Knoxville, Tenn. 3 pm

Tues. - Dec 19 North Texas* Bowling Green, Ky. 7 pm

Fri. - Dec 22 South Alabama* Bowling Green, Ky. 7 pm

Kentucky

Western

Louisville

Its sad to say that the best team in Kentucky has played so terrible. However I think Kentucky will play better and should do good.

How quickly everyone forgets about Wichita St., Missouri St., George Mason, Bucknell, Pacific, Creighton, Gonzaga, etc. Fellas, the gap between Major and Mid-Major is getting very small. Very, very small. If your argument is simply UK and UL are "Major" and WKU is "mid-major", and that's that, than you're short-sighted.

 

Now, if you think WKU is simply not as good...that's quite possibly accurate; we'll see. If Tricky Ricky would't have made dropping WKU and backing out of that contract his first priority at UL, we may have definitive evidence. I haven't seen UK rush to schedule WKU since the defeat they took in Rupp v. the 'Toppers. Maybe those folks know more than we do.

 

List all the "mid majors" that you want. That's fine. Kentucky & Louisville would beat Western around 7 out of 10 times.

 

I understand you're a WKU fan & alum. I understand that, and I pull for the 'Toppers too. But, if you think that they can compete with the Cats & Cards on a regular basis than you're mistaken. Once again, they are capable of knocking them off, but I wouldn't count ono it.

 

BTW, after how many seasons of Gonzaga being a top 15 team do we (collectively) no longer consider them "mid major"?

That has nothing to do with it. I'm a bigger UK fan than I am WKU, but the facts are the facts. UK and UL are not Top 10 programs right now, not close, and if you think the gap between them and the Top 10 or so mid-major programs is that wide than you are mistaken.

Kind of the opposite of the football zen in the league right now.

I said all along the BEast was going to be down at the start of this season. We'll see how all the young kids progress over the next three months. If it goes well, look out...
