November 28, 200619 yr I'm sure that if any of us had to hear some of the things these athletes hear from fans we'd probably be giving the one finger salute too!Disagree completely. That conduct, is not normal thought or behavior, for most athletes. They are not only trained professionals in body but often times, what separates the good from the great, is composure and the ability to control emotions under pressure. The difference is, some of us may think certain ideas but not many, have offered the lone soldier, as a means of communication. I've seen some occasions and even one of my former, favorite MLB players did this....not an example that many professional athletes, or BGP'ers would choose.
November 28, 200619 yr The Falcons need to get Vick some receivers who can handle the Randy Johnson like ball being thrown @ them. About Vick's actions today...Players do it all the time but Vick got caught doin it...does not make it appropriate however so shame on Mike.... Dude, come on. Write at...
November 28, 200619 yr Vick apologized for his actions. On another note, I'm waiting for the Giants to apologize to me for today's sad attempt at playing football.
November 28, 200619 yr On another note, I'm waiting for the Giants to apologize to me for today's sad attempt at playing football. I gotta say, that is one of the best things I have read in the Pro Forum in a while.
November 28, 200619 yr Was that Michael or Marcus? No physical altercations were involved, couldn't have been Marcus.
November 28, 200619 yr Author So are you trying to tell me Vick's making an attempt to padd his stat's when the games are already over.... My post was in reference to Vick's post game antics with some fans as he left the field.

November 28, 200619 yr There's a silver lining in all this, of course: Bryan Cox was able to parlay just such an incident into a part-time broadcasting career.
November 28, 200619 yr Vick needs receivers who can catch the ball or no matter how good of a passer he becomes, they aren't helping him out at all. As far as giving the bird to some fans, it was wrong, he apologized for his actions and I am okay with that. He is frustrated and acted improperly. He showed remorse and it is time to move on. It is not the worst thing a pro athlete has done that's for sure.

It is not the worst thing a pro athlete has done that's for sure. They all apologize when they thnk they will be hit in the bank account. It may not be the worse thing that an athlete has done but Vick lost a lot of my respect and when respect is gone there is nothing left. Vick disrespected all fans with his actions and also himself.
November 28, 200619 yr Let me ask this question then: if Vick had been in a night club after the game and some fans started on him then and he gave the finger with no cameras around, would you all still have a problem with it? I admit, it's not the best thing to do, but when you're walking up the tunnel and there's 1000 fans standing there cussing you and giving you the finger, I bet you'd be surprised at how many players would give it right back. I think just as much of the blame should be placed on the fans that instigated it. Nobody forced them to go to the game and nobody forced them to stay there. If they don't like it, they can stay home and watch a different game. I've NEVER been a fan of Vick's, but at least he tries. I've seen him short hop an open receiver 10 yards away on 3rd and 6 on the first drive of the game, but he hustles unlike Randy Moss. I'm not saying what he did was ok. I'm just asking if everybody would be making such a big deal about it, if it wasn't on camera?

November 30, 200619 yr If you rob a bank and do not get caught are you still considered a bank robber? So people who are not athletes can give somebody the finger. But if you're an athlete and do, you have to pay out the wazoo?

Fans pay, get to say whatever they want and a professional athlete, even an amateur must not handle any situation with that. Vick walked off the field, made eye contact and then yielded the salute. It has nothing to do with his ability on the field, but lack of control off the field. You must tune out negative comments, criticism and verbal attacks, because they are constant. Any athlete, ever played will confirm that. Vick made a mistake, one he would like to take back and any time he's wearing that Falcons uniform, he's representing the NFL and thus, can be sanctioned by them....rightfully so in this case. As for your nightclub scenario, I've often stated that alcohol, nightclubs and wee hours in the morning, are a lethal mixture.
