DevilMayCare Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Congratulations to the Tomcats! They've earned the right to represent the 16th Region on the biggest stage in the bluegrass. Best of luck at Rupp. Boyd County couldn't throw it in the ocean for long stretches while Ashland just kept consistently making baskets. Every time Boyd would put a couple of buckets together, Ashland would answer. Once Ashland stretched the lead out to double digits, the Lions were basically out of it on this day. Ashland shot 56% for the game, including 8/14 from three. Boyd shot 33% overall, and just 3/15 from behind the arc.
DevilMayCare Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I doubt anyone saw this coming. Ashland was squarely in the middle of the pack in the region all season long. They were something of an afterthought when they arrived in Morehead. Ashland has earned the unofficial title of "lion tamer" after dispatching Lewis County, Elliott County, and now Boyd County on their way to the school's first regional championship since 2002.
GOREDDEVILS Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 The return of Cole Villers from injury for the tournaments made the difference imo.
DevilMayCare Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 The return of Cole Villers from injury for the tournaments made the difference imo. He definitely gave them a big lift today - 21 points on 5/6 shooting from three.
16thBBall Fan Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I am wondering about the Bryant kid coming back on the team and how it will affect the chemistry they developed this week.
2-3-Zone Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Congrats Ashland. Always seem like one team makes it to Rupp that no one mentions or think will make it. Southwestern last year, Ashland this season.

Lion tamers. I like it.
DevilMayCare Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Lion tamers. I like it. That moniker could be Ashland's version of "Rupp's Runts" or the "Unforgettables". Of course, I just like the nickname because I thought of it!
DevilMayCare Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Congrats Ashland. Always seem like one team makes it to Rupp that no one mentions or think will make it. Southwestern last year, Ashland this season. I think the "Cinderella" teams are arguably the best part of the Sweet 16.
2-3-Zone Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I think the "Cinderella" teams are arguably the best part of the Sweet 16. For sure!
The Professor Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 It was almost halftime before I got to the hame but it was worth the 90 mile drive! Congratulations to Ashland’s players, coaching staff and fans on their title!
