Congratulations to Ashland!

Congratulations to the Tomcats! They've earned the right to represent the 16th Region on the biggest stage in the bluegrass. Best of luck at Rupp.

 

Boyd County couldn't throw it in the ocean for long stretches while Ashland just kept consistently making baskets. Every time Boyd would put a couple of buckets together, Ashland would answer. Once Ashland stretched the lead out to double digits, the Lions were basically out of it on this day.

 

Ashland shot 56% for the game, including 8/14 from three. Boyd shot 33% overall, and just 3/15 from behind the arc.

I doubt anyone saw this coming. Ashland was squarely in the middle of the pack in the region all season long. They were something of an afterthought when they arrived in Morehead.

 

Ashland has earned the unofficial title of "lion tamer" after dispatching Lewis County, Elliott County, and now Boyd County on their way to the school's first regional championship since 2002.

The return of Cole Villers from injury for the tournaments made the difference imo.

Always seem like one team makes it to Rupp that no one mentions or think will make it. Southwestern last year, Ashland this season.

That moniker could be Ashland's version of "Rupp's Runts" or the "Unforgettables". Of course, I just like the nickname because I thought of it!

It was almost halftime before I got to the hame but it was worth the 90 mile drive!
